so "goblins" are "vättar" in swedish?
Yeah, the closest equivalent would be "vättar" or perhaps "svartalfer". Most people would just say goblins or gobbos though, at least when it comes to GW-games.

Micke
i was just wondering because it sounds similar to the german "vetter"... which means "cousin"... well, nothing fancy here :-?

does svartalfer have anything to do with swords or stuff?

some time ago I read the translation of hobgoblin in an English-German dict and it said "kobold" (i.e. imp)

If you really really want to know the italian equivalents, here u are.

Blitz -> Blitz
Pass -> Passaggio
Hand Off -> Passaggio alla mano
Block -> Blocco (action) Contrasto (skill)
Dodge -> Finta

But most ppl here uses english skills in rosters.

(too bad GW isn't planning of translating the living rulebook in italian but a german and a spanish version is planned. And I bet there will be a french one too.)

In Dutch:

Blitz = Blits
Block = Blok/Ram/Beuk
Dodge = Dodge (no translation)
Pass = Gooien
Hand Off (the ball) = (De bal) Afgeven
Foul = Schop

I've seen Goblins hit harder = Kom op, ik ken Goblins die harder slaan.
They've all got dodge = Iedereen heeft dodge
But all mine have Tackle = Maar de mijne hebben allemaal Tackle!

Tally ho, bandits at 12 o'clock! = Blitz!

I rather think you are not playing by the rules, you cad! = Illegal Procedure!

Ah! Reviving an old subject, I see this as a chance to prove an old point of mine that Swedish and Dutch languages are like peas and carrots -at least on the paper. Try and compare the spoken form and it will be a little harder :D

weet je zeker dat je dat wil doen?- är du säker att du vill göra det?
dat zuigt grote ballen - det suger grusiga ballar

By the way, @campaigner: "svartalfer" would translate literally into "black elves". Svartalfer are the generalised archaic Swedish name for short-statured ill-tempered forest dwelling creatures (correct me if someone have a better term for it:)), which may be why Swedish RPGs' svartalfer look a lot like goblins. If you do a direct translation of the word it reminds you more of "dark elves", though. To add further confusion, the svartalfer of nordic mythology are meant to resemble dwarfs if I remember correctly.

Cele forgot to translate in Italian those phrases
  • Illegal Procedure = Procedura illegale
    Bite me = litterally is "mordimi", but I think it's better to translate it with "colpiscimi!"
    I've seen Goblins hit harder = Ho visto Goblin colpire più forte!
    They've all got Dodge = Avevano tutti Dodge
