Breaking the language barrier

Post by gallowin »

Out of curiosity, could someone post the French, German, or Spanish translations for the following BB terms:

Blitz
Pass
Hand Off
Block
Dodge

And these next ones are just a little something extra in ensuring I win best sportsman :wink:

Illegal Procedure
Bite me
I've seen Goblins hit harder
They've all got Dodge

Of course! I'll give similar translation to a friend who don't speak english

Blitz => penetración
Pass=> Pasar /Pase
Hand Off => Pase a la mano
Block => Placar
Dodge => esquivar

Illegal Procedure => procedimiento ilegal
Bite me => muerdeme
I've seen Goblins hit harder => he visto a goblins pegar mas fuerte
They've all got Dodge => todos tienen esquivar

Lo siento, no queria matar a tu jugador => I'm sorry I didn't want to kill your player :P
Dejame ganar o usare mi pistola => Let me win or I'll use my gun ...oops... :lol: :oops:

And here are the votes of the German jury:

Blitz => Blitz
Pass=> Pass
Hand Off => Ballübergabe
Block => Block
Dodge => Ausweichen

Illegal Procedure => Illegales Vorgehen (?)
Bite me => Komm doch!
I've seen Goblins hit harder => Ich habe schon Goblins getroffen, die besser ausgeteilt haben
They've all got Dodge => Die können alle ausweichen
Prepare for answer: "Aber meine haben alle Tackle"

Lo siento, no queria matar a tu jugador => I'm sorry I didn't want to kill your player => OOOOOOOOOch, das tut mir aber leid .... wie schade! Dem wollte ich doch gar nichts tun. sooooo ein Pech :)
Dejame ganar o usare mi pistola => Let me win or I'll use my gun ...oops... => Sentence forbidden in Germany (no guns here), how about a baseball bat?

Not on the list, but Swedish:

Blitz - Blitz
Pass - Passa or Kasta (the latter literally means "to throw")
Hand Off - Ge bort bollen
Block - Banka på
Dodge -Ducka

And these next ones are just a little something extra in ensuring I win best sportsman

Illegal Procedure - Olagligt aktion! (Lit: illegal action!)
Bite me - Biter mig! ("Far åt helvete!" meaning "go to hell!" would be better according to the wife.)
I've seen Goblins hit harder - Jag har sett Vättar som slå hårdare
They've all got Dodge - Dem alla har "Ducka!"

Thanks everyone!!! I'll do my best not to butcher the pronunciations. And thanks for the added phrases. They'll come in handy! :wink:

They're the phrases we use in my league...either that or direct translations that my wife came up with. She knows squat about BB. If there isn't a simple translation we use the English version most of the time (hand off for instance). Illegal procedure is NEVER used.

If you use different phrases I'd like to know what they are to help my Swedish...

No, your swedish is fine Thadrin, a lot better then my english. But there are a few small but very typical mistakes:

I've seen Goblins hit harder - Jag har sett vättar slå hårdare
They've all got Dodge - De har Dodge/Ducka allihop

The Dutch version as we use it!

Blitz => Blits
Pass => Paas
Hand Off => Hand Of
Block => Blok
Dodge => Dodge

You're right. We don't translate them. I just left out the letters you can't hear anyway!

Ha, ha je hebt je pass gefumbeld en nu is het een turnover! I think you can work this line out for yourselves! :smoking:

Yeah, the closest equivalent would be "vättar" or perhaps "svartalfer". Most people would just say goblins or gobbos though, at least when it comes to GW-games.
