I would say that if you can take FF, take it. But only few teams can really play FF.
I am not afraid about pitch invasion:
you have to do less than your opponent (most FF will be 3/4 or 1 so there is not a big deal, you can have it, i did at spiky)
And then, if you dont have it, you opponent have to make a big roll for the number of players included...
And then he have to make serious injury rolls...
I believe that there is too much rolls so i m not afraid.

Of course you could be the one with 4 seriously injured but in this way your not lucky, so you should have lost anyway

I prefer take my money for RR or players 8)

As suggested already, if you take 3k extra for a blitzer than a lineman (for example) the potential for using that 3k of talent is all 32 turns of the game, the 3k of FF sits idle for most of it. It's a nice insurance policy, but I don't expect you'll come close to winning this without gambling.
The thing from a statistical point of view, is you may have x kick-offs, but the bad results may well hit you all in the same game, or turn 7 2nd half when you're 3-0 up. Any team with a huge FF is likely to be weaker on the field so he'll he get plenty of kick off rolls, but only because you keep scoring. I'm no bb roster expert but under these circumstances I guess the average is going to be around 3, maybe 4. So the differences are probably going to be small so we go back to the luck of the dice. And if you could work that out, you'd not even need to bother turning up. I may be willing to buy a pint in admiration of someone's reckless gambling if they take FF9 - I'll even buy them a pint too.

Slinky: Lost a tournament due to having a fan factor of 1, Won a tournament due to having a fan factor of 9

I'd rather account for bad luck then make up the rest with skill than try to shore up my skill and count on not getting unlucky. YMMV

YMMV?

I see your point, but can't say I agree. Maybe experience will teach me otherwise.

A large portion of the 'skills' in this game are there to minimise the effect bad luck can have on your plans. So I don't think the two are so different, it's whether you want your luck 'insurance' in a chunk of fan factor or a spreading of skills.
