They are quite scary. I like them!
Maybe adding 'lips' will make them more toady/froggy? If needed?

The froxigor is too genestealer for me though. Maybe a ratogre's body as a base? less boney, more muscles.

Cant wait to see them painted. :D

Didn't you paint up an Undead team for the NAF GT first prize 5 or 6 years back?

I've finished making all the linemen now and under-coated them as well, the catchers and blitzers are coming along nicely as well.

I have a test model made from lots of spare bits so have been using test colour schemes on him.

The first has mid-green skin that I think will be useful for linemen. He has blue armour with white edging.

The other has pale green skin which would be for catchers along whilst the 2nd had dark green which i would use for the blitzers. Both these have red armour with 1 having white edging and the other gold.

I've never painted a prize for the NAF. They're welcome to ask, but I'm not sure I'd want to follow this act. :-)

The closest I came were a couple of auctions for thrud.

It was Nippy Longskar who painted the first NAFC team. I think that it was Undead, I kinda remember seeing the mummies wip

Oops, sorry Nazgob.

Must have got my coaches who make cools teams and start with "N" mixed up.

Looks awesome! I knew once painted up they'd look nothing like rotters. The stance is just right. I saw this really cool slann team with white bellies against the green skin, a bit more lizard-like than frog-like, but it really worked; could be an option to increase variety between positions.

That is a good idea, I had meant to look into that but had forgotten. So I’ve repainted the skin going back to the mid-green but this time added a pale belly by mixing increasing amounts of bone to the green base colour. I like this as it does break up the potentially flat green that would be dominate the model since even with the extra armour I have added they still have a lot of skin showing.

I had a look at real life frogs and many of these have pale bellies, though these go all the way up to their chest right up to the lower jaw. I will have to see which I like best.

I also changed the armour to yellow with black edging and silver metallic parts. I like this colour scheme with green skin but did already use it on a savage orc team I painted up last year.

I have completed the first model now.

The mid-green skin ended up looking a bit sickly the first time I painted him and required a couple of washes and glazes to bring it back. I was intending on going to white edging and loin cloth but after the pale belly turned out so well I thought a white loin cloth would look too similar to it. Instead I went with yellow as it is a bright colour and along with black and red and colours the Slann like to use according to 3rd edition Warhammer armies.
I am debating adding war paint or tattoos but that might be a bit much.

I have completed three more linefrogs. It was surprisingly difficult to get their skin to match the original model I had painted up, it took multiple washes and glazes until I finally got close. Some variation in skin tone is fine but my earlier attempts were too pale, dark or cold, it was finally when I remembered the yellow glaze that I got it right.

Painting chips on the armour also takes a long time to complete but it worth it for the effect. I have gone 1 stage further than normal and put chips in the actual numbers themselves.

With both the skin and armour taking so long to paint it makes me very glad I started this team now with months to go. I can now make a start on the other 4 linefrogs, hopefully getting the skin done before I forget again.

To help me keep track of progress I am going to start marking the status of each batch of players.
  • 8 Linemen – 4 Painted & 4 undercoated
    4 Blitzers – 4 undercoated
    4 Catchers – 4 undercoated
4 Kroxigor – assembled, needs more greenstuff work
Quetzal Leap – assembled, needs more greenstuff work
    Lottabottol – in bits
    Display Base – not started

They look brilliant, I wasn't sure how they'd look based on the Nurgle figures but love them now.

I’ve finished all the linemen now so the basic team is half done.

Image

I am making pretty good progress, painting up the other normal models shouldn’t take too long as they are already undercoated and I have already started on the 4 catchers.
I do need to get a move on with finishing converting Lotta and the Krox though as they need quite a bit of work.

The plan is to finish the catchers by the end of Jan which would leave 3 months for the blitzers, krox, 2 stars and display base.

One thing I haven’t come up with yet is a design for the display base, as it stands I have thought of 3 possibilities so far.

1. A swampy jungle with NAF logo resembling a ruined temple, much like I did last year. The advantage of this is that is the easiest to do as I won’t have to remove the players from their bases. I can just glue the green flock or paint the resin used as water onto their bases.
Image

2. An astrogranite pitch, possibly with lots of cracked slabs and plants growing through them to represent it being ancient and in a jungle. For this I can either glue plasticard onto the bases or paint them and the cracks onto the base. The former will require I cut the models off their bases and then pin them back on later so is more time consuming. The pic below is one of my favourite teams and I would aim to do something like that display base but with more detritus on the pitch and damaged slabs with plants growing through.
Image

3. The final idea would be a pitch that is a huge lake with giant lily pads on it. The NAF logo would be on a large central pad and the rest of the pitch would have numerous smaller sized pads that could fit 1-3 players on them. This would look great for display, but the difficulty is that unless I make the models straddle 2 pads their bases will end up plain green. The pic below shows some of these in real life.
