Andy Hall just emailed me about Thrud:

E-mail titled: Blood Bowl Tournament - U turn.

He says:

Hi Paul,

I've since discussed my original ruling with Jervis and have come to a
decision that as Thrud is a freebooter he can't be used in the Tournament.
Sorry for the Uturn but I thought I'd better let you know!

I didn't think he would be, the rules pack say its the living rulebook rules but the star player section says only the oness on the back of the handbook. But yer he is a freebooter anyway ;]

I'm not going to the BB Tournament, but I have to say this is a complete and UTTER crock.

ALL Stars are freebooters.

So Thrud has a freeboot price of 50k ... that means his normal price is 100k ... in MY OPINION there is ZERO reason why a team should not be allowed to purchase him for "full" price just like any other star.

But Thrud is an exception - he doesn't have a normal price as he only freeboots .. and freebooting is not allowed in the tournament.

Andy hall answers:

No.
> 2) What about raise dead spell of undead teams? will it work as usual?
> (maybe raising a zombie for that match only)
It will work, however you must start with the same roster every match. So
you will lose it after the match has ended.
> 3) need to confirm about buying thrudd for only 50k
You can't. Thrud is not on the Star Player list on the back of the printed
handbook and his freebooter only rules prevent him from being used in the
tournament.

You can but as many Star Players as you can afford.

Grrrr ....

They should ignore the whole Freebooter only from his rules

Thrud should be included on the back page of the LRB for 100k

Its a complete crock to me to even try the he's only a freebooter argument. BAH!!!!

IN MY OPINION, one of the only places that I could ever see Thrud showing up is AT EVENTS LIKE THIS ONE. Don't see players freebooting any stars so far in the MBBL. Completely wrong decision in my opinion.

Well, to be honest, I'll freebot thrudd on my next match in our league... I play dwarfs and will play against lizards. I'd use it on blood bowl because if costed only 50k to buy it thought it was cheap...

I'm too busy trying to buy elves to be able to freeboot stars. Anyway, my choices for stars are either Harkon or Thrud. With my typical luck, I'm not going to risk Thrud... though I did wonder whether using him to stand against Robert Arnholm's rat ogre might have worked and then spent the whole of the first half trying to beat up rats so that when he swapped sides there were very few rats to help him.

As for Harkon... poison dagger is great if you can hire it permanently, but he'll probably get sent off immediately knowing my luck.

Cheers,
Martyn

Galak i agree i think he should be listed as 100k, i eas merely trying to tihnk of things from a games workshop mind set in that i would think they would say no.

Was talking about this to christer and he thinks all of the star players should be listed as their half price freebooter cost on the rule book, i can't say it matters as long as its the same for all of them.

Also like i posted on another thread, we are allowed more than one star player?

The way the tournament rules are set up at BB, it is only logical that Thrudd is not allowed (everything else would have surprised me).

Would the tournament have include team management (ie with league-like team developement rules) then I would agree with you ...

Galak Said: All Star Players are Freebooters.

That's not quite the case. Star Players are Freebooters in a *League*. However in one-off games you must pay the full price for a Star Player and the Tournament is a collection of one-off games rather than a league.

This is where Thrud causes problems with the Tournament system as is, because he is a *Freebooter* and only ever works that way. I could of included him (and indeed at first I did) but I'm just not sure how he'd work in the system and as this is the first Tournament I want to play it safe and simply ban him so he can't cause any trouble!

BTW I'll be placing an official Tournament Q+A on BB.com this should help clarify a couple of other points that have been raised.
