Re: The Blood Bowl - NAF Announcement

Post by PeteW »

Superb news!

This is a win-win situation. GW get a tournament that is cheaper for them to run (as we will organise and staff it), and we get a tournament that is better organised and better value for money! If only they had let the NAF run it ages ago!!

For advertising, I'm pretty sure that the guys at Warhammer World would be happy to put it on their blog, and I expect White Dwarf would be happy to advertise it too.

As for rules, Joe is right. The centrepiece tourney probably needs to be a more standard, open affair, as many of the coaches are relative newcomers. The WISB was wacky, but that is probably due to the unstable nature of the guy running it... :-?

Agreed, this makes the GT a much more appealing tourney to attend. I think that it should be a straight 1.1gp with 6 skills (1 before each game) to keep it simple for new coaches, who are possibly entering their first tourney. It is a great way to introduce people to the tourney scene. Well done Naf. :D

This would be the first tournament I'd go to, certainly. I'm very interested, and I'd also see how many friends I could bring along :D

I think I'd better get my c/c sorted pretty dame quick! I get the feeling the tickets won't be on sale for long!

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I think NAF staff should be garenteed a ticket.
;)

On a slightly more serious note, I do think existing NAF members should be given priority, like WD subscribers do for Games day.

How many tickets are we talking about??? No more than 200-250 coaches on GW's hall I guess.

Non-GW teams and the 3 new races should be absolutely fine. We will confirm that for you as soon as.

We can't force people to join NAF but we are currently considering whether to include NAF sign-up / renewal in the ticket price.

We are setting our own ticket price too, that's correct. It will be a little more than most tourneys, but a whole lot cheaper and better value than previous years.

Rules - this is under discussion. There may or may not be minor changes.

Space - tickets may well sell out fast so I guess all we can say is get in quick once they go on sale. I'll confirm maximum capacity asap.

Anyway, it's great to hear all of the positive responses. All very exciting.

As the mighty Mr Pres says, we've set up an organising committee to discuss all of the above and more. More updates and info to follow :)

Relevant question: will sales be via GW or the NAF?

Sales will be via the NAF. It's 100% NAF-run.

Very good news NAF will organize the Blood Bowl

What are you planning about the number of games?

From the Swiss system it the best to have as much games played as possible. Especialy if you have 200 Coaches. On the other hand, if you have less games you will have a big lottery. I dont wat is possible and how long you will have the location available.
Because it is the Blood Bowl everything is bigger number of players and number of games.

The tournament itself will be very similar to what it has been for the last several years i.e. 6 games of swiss after a random first round.

This isn't the most scientific way of deciding a winner, never has been. But we can't play 8 or 9 rounds, that's just not possible. In one sense it's part of the magic of the event that you need a lot of luck to win it. Luck and skill of course!

Any chance of a good turnout from Germany? I know Kithor plans to come...

First of all, congratulations guys! This is a very good new.

I have never been in England playing a tournament. Surely this is a good chance.

In Spanish forum there's lot of people interested. It's so soon but it sounds like the Spanish Armada! 8)
