Just as I think the whole BB-in-crisis moment has passed I find this thread... c'mon guys it's hardly mature doing this. I appreciate how you feel about this but come on. GW have a blanket renewal of IP across all games - all of them, not just BB - and we get affected.

It's not personal, at all. GW don't hate Tom. GW don't hate BB. GW are protecting their business interests in the best way they see fit. We as a community, or rather elements of this community, need to accept this and grow the hell up.

Doing this wont make things better or worse, you'll just look a bit silly.

Not at all, they just sacked him, took all his work, changed it, and published it under a C.R.A.P. name.

I'm not going to GT but I hope everyone has their calm non-violent protest and I hope a cut-throat/Galak team wins!!

But at the end of the day, its all a bit of harmless fun, no-ones gonna die so what should it matter?

Really? Didn't see loads of Mordheim, Necromunda, Epic, LotR or Warhammer sites getting C&D letters. You don't see the Mordheim, Epic and Necro rulebooks having the names of their respective rule commitees removed. 40K has a thanks to various non-GW playtesters.
Seems like a witch-hunt on BB to me.

Don't forget they removed all trace of his involvement, or even thanks for his work (and the rest of the BBRC or course).

This is quiet protest that will show those in the know at GW (hopefully) that we, as a community, are slighty pi$$ed at the way they've treated the game. Yes it's their property to do with as they please, but as a company they need to be reminded every now and then that the public who spend money on their products keep them going. So maybe BB doesnt generate the same level of capital as Chaos Black Paint or a Space Marine, so maybe GW are trying to make some money from BB now (see my comment on the CRAP feedback in General Chat). What ever. We (well I say "we", this is the reason I am protesting, I'm making a large large leap of faith that others are in for the same reason) are protesting over the way they did it and the way they treat us and the people that made BB what it is today.

Oh, and there's NetEpic, which if I've understood is an earlier version of Epic (Epic 40,000?) that fans continued to develop alongside the official Epic on the old SG forum - no C&D received.

Librarium-online did. 40k site. Just how many Mordheim, Epic, Necro sites are there out there and how many are using copyright infringing items inherent in their design? TBB got the letter because it uses a trademarked GW term. LO got it because it was selling branded stuff that happened to have potentially infringing material in. Blanket IP renewal doesn't mean blanket C&D, just sites that infringe, or POTENTIALLY infringe, where in doubt GW will send a letter because GW can't afford the doubt.
Seems like a witch-hunt on BB to me.
Because BB has the largest most active fanbase of all specialist games and it's the one you're involved with most of all. And for the core games there are THOUSANDS of sites out there, so many you personally can't track them all.

It's like saying all your dice roll 1s, they don't, you just don't remember the rolls that don't go your way.
Not at all, they just sacked him, took all his work, changed it, and published it under a C.R.A.P. name. Don't forget they removed all trace of his involvement, or even thanks for his work (and the rest of the BBRC or course).
Could it be that NOT doing that might make them slightly open in terms of future IP protection claims? IMO yes. Hence they close it down and they must be seen to close it down hard.

Did they do what they did because some sinister agent loose within GW hates Galak personally? No. Don't be silly. They don't care WHO is doing it only WHAT was done and how they need to react under law.

Like it or not the earlier era for BB has changed, not entirely unexpectedly, and the best way for the community to do that is not to pretend to boycott or other "peaceful protests" it's to roll with the punches and move on. If we are this paradigm of GW-game fan community we should show it.

And to the people who contact me and who aren't worthy of individual responses, don't mistake not agreeing with the masses on this issue as being a "Galak Hater" or a "GW plant".

So why do Mordheim and Necro have their RC thanked in the respective rulebooks, downloadable from GW? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Not yet. It will.

GW will naturally go after the biggest, easiest targets first.

Didn't have a lot of time (and my 'net connection if being slow tonight), but a quick google search for Mordheim..

First fansite link - Mordheim graphics, direct copy and pastes from Mordheim rulebook.
2nd fansite link (blog) - Mordheim graphics
3rd fansite link - pdfs of the OOP Mordheim Town Cryers (which I'd better copy sharpish)

Doesn't seems like they're being through at all.
