As I said before, IF I did run a tonri and it is still a big IF, it would be straight blood bowl, maybe with a few strange twists in the rules

for the full weekend, Friday night/Saturday night? I may patronise your tourney instead, sounds like that would be more fun anyway

Canales wrote:Hi all,

A friend of mine told me that this year's BB GT will be organized not by GW, but by the NAF itself. Is that true? I cannot find any threads for confirmation here or on the NAF website.

I would also like to know if the rules for this year's tournament are already available.
Thanks!
As Darkson said a page pack, the BB is GW's tournament. However the NAF is helping out with certain things like the rules pack, which is not out yet. We have no say on a large number of other things but we have been asked to comment and provide feedback on the points system, provide better software to run the tournament and such like.
But it remains GW's tournament and they have final say.

edit: I think the pack is due in a month or so....

Just so you know, the price hike's aren't BB specific, all of their GT's went up to 55quid this year.

So their ripping everyone off, not just Blood Bowlers

Ditto Gumbo.

GW "rip us off" with just about ever product they sell - minis, paints, games, books etc. They sell to make a profit. They are a profit making organisation in a competitive marketplace.

BB is GW's game, and effectively they've made this the most prestigious tourney. Just about everyone I know on the UK BB scene will be there so that should make for a good event, despite the price.

£55 is irritating, but it doesn't bother me that much because it's predictable. I'll still be there, as I'm sure plenty of other whingers will too

Also the impression I'm getting from NAF is that they wouldn't support a rival tournie, so to do this would be stepping on their toes as well as GW's.

I dunno if "Stepping on the NAF's toes" would be 100% correct pip.

Officially the NAF would be sponsoring the GT, but i think you may find that unofficially the NAF organisers will propably agree in principal a parallel tourney. They just can't say anything because of their position, and relationship with GW.

GAa, if you got the numbers, i could very well be up for this.

I'll be at the BB GT, GW make profits like any other buisness. At the end of the day if its still worth it to you then you go.

On a different point... I've always wondered where tournament organisers stand legally. After all the organisers charge players to participate in a tournament using GW's intellectual property. Is this completley legal or a grey area? I can see why GW would want tournaments to promote the games their games of course.

The idea of a rival tourney to the GW one in the same place started me thinking, what control (if any ) can GW exert over tournaments?

To be honest Matt, I dont think they could stop people playing their games in a torni set up, and I dont see why they would, bottom line is, the stronger the torni scene the more money they make.

Granted they dont make much money off Blood Bowl but they make some

I'm not saying they'd want to stop tournaments but asking what control they do have? For instance if you buy a book or a DVD the publishers still have rights over it - ie no resale or no public showings etc (even for free). Now these rules are hardly ever enforced but they could be in rare cases.

So if you wanted to run (and charge a fee for)a rival tourney in the same town as the GT on the same date just down the road, to me that could be one of those cases that rattles a company into enforcing it's product protection rights. And I was wondering what those rights are. :-?
