Right now, asside from Fumbbl , the best editor is either the old team editor excel doc by Milo or the Team Editor program (link is on my website). The excel doc can export to html that java bbowl can read but some of the rules it uses are probably out of date. The team editor program is very very basic. You must type in everything yourself, but it is pretty much guaranteed that it creates html that can be used by java bbowl.
One day I do plan on making a java bbowl specific editor. Nothing really fancy, but you would be able to choose from races and players defined in a user editable ini file. It would, at least at the start, be a pretty basic editor that would just relieve the user from typing in all the stats and skills for each player.

That would really ad value to your application.
We try get a league going with ONLY never ever played newbie players, and they struggle, and I have to edit all the rosters...
SKI, PLEASE, PLEASE, make your Java Bowl START FULLSCREEN;
Override the Windows Taskbar !!! You can always minimze or return to window.
Java Bowl looks WAY more "Clear" if it is maximised and the Windows taskbar minimized !!!

I do not think there is a way to control the windows taskbar from within java code. And once you have enabled the resizable window option (only need to do this once), you are only one click away from a maximized javabbowl.

Ski, if you want to start an Application "maximised", right click its Deskto Link, properties set "Start Maximised".
This worked for JBB 5.6 !
It does no longer work with 5.7 !
I know it might be strange to some people that I insist on such details.
But the "professional look" it creates is really a huge difference.
Minimizing windows Taskbar and Maximising JBB, should be the way the Application looks when it starts. Also, get rid of the "field.jpg and field2.jpg, and make "field_good.jpg" the default (rename a copy of field_good to field2).
I cant really explain... it feals more smooth if JBB starts with these 3 things...

I haven't changed any code that would affect this? Did you perhaps just reinstall the JRE? Maybe if you did it is the JRE that isn't cooperating. Try 5.6 again and see if it still works like that. Let me know. Also make sure the resizable option is checked. Maybe it reset to off on you?

Like I said I can't control the taskbar from within java, and I can't right click their shortcut for them. Also, maximising jbb may look nice at 1024x768, but it does not look nice at higher resolutions than that. Plus, not everyone using this uses windows. Granted a large majority do though. But when I start to do windows specific things I risk breaking it on other OSes and I can't test it out for those other OSes.

I usually do clean-ups like this each time I hit a even number. So the next cleanup will happen at 6.0, when I repack the whole thing into a 6.0 download.

I'm not sure if this is what Toby is talking about, but what happens with me is that JavaBowl starts up below and behind the Taskbar. Even when I maxmize the window, it's still below and behind the taskbar. The only way I can see the whole screen is to minimize the task bar, or hide it. I don't know if that's something you can fix, but every other program I run always starts above the task bar, so it's not a problem.SkiJunkie wrote:I do not think there is a way to control the windows taskbar from within java code. Personally I hate having the taskbar minimised or autohide as i think is what you mean, i have mine at the side of the screen and not the bottom anyway and i don't want to run it maximised, its a lot easier for you to maximise than it would be the other way around.
Loads of programs don't run maximised, it has nothing to do with professionalism, besides that sort of stuff should be added on the end to polish it up, there are more pressing issues to be dealt with.

Right, but what he's been saying is that that is only on your monitor at your resolution on your machine. Lots of different people use JBB. Not all of us have exactly the same monitor settings. Most of what you are asking for here is stuff that you're used to from Win32 applications, rather than a Java application that everyone can run and (conveniently enough) already exists.Toby wrote:Look, i dont want to bitch BUT do you see how much Space you would gain on the right side ?

well you change your screen resolution all the time when running computer games;
simply state: JBB recomends 1024x768;
I would make it to "support" 2 resolutions 1024x768 (15"TFT)
and 1280x1024 (17"TFT). That should be very "future proof".
and very simply, create startmenu link that is set to "maximise".
The "markiesoft thing" does that. The windows taskbar should be visible, however. User can chose to minimise or not (as is). this is because of ICQ, media player and so on...

Okay, Toby's experiencing something completly different than I am.
What I get is the bottom of the screen cut off by my taskbar. I.E. about the part just above the second ReRoll counter, it is covered by the taskbar. This is so, even if I maxamize the game, which normally fixes this in other programs.
The only way to solve the problem is to hide my task bar, something I'm not fond of. Maybe it's just my resolution, though.

Oh yeah? Well mine's bigger.Grumbledook wrote:...i find having the extra space around it useful...

{edit: image removed as that was just too annoying for words}
ps. Seriously, dual monitors always act wonky with fullscreen applications. If you want it full screen, then make it full screen, but there's no good reason to make that the default and potentially break something else.
post-post-script: Heh. Grum's apple start menu is funny. I always knew he wanted to be like the cool kids, but...
