However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

Custom player pics in JavaBowl

Post by woodmeister »

Anyone had any joy adding custom player pics into Javabowl? By default the pic it uses seems to be a combo of race and player position which means you could overwrite the graphic with a new one using the same name.

But what if you don't want to do that?

Just to let you guys know. Between's

Dain's Hall of Galleries: http://fredweb.chez.tiscali.fr/index.php

and the zip libraries of the PBeM tool (several of the LRB ones are Dain's):
http://www.pbembb.com

There are a LOT of pics that could be very easily converted to work with the program.

As for how to add custom pictures, it's described in the readme file which you will find in your javabbowl folder.

I didn't quite under stand this line? Are you saying you can't get the custom pics added to your roster working? If you are having troubles look at "zCustomPicDemo.html" roster in your teams directory. That has and example team with custom pics. If you are still having probs I'll try to help you out.

For the record, I have a copy of Dain's images that I haven't put up on the PID yet, as I haven't had time to go through the hundreds of images and resize them and such. They're just a wee it small for JBB, but pretty good stuff.

There are 2 ways to use custom images. You can either replace the defaults (particularly the default Human and Orc images... <shudder>) and you can add custom pics to your roster. The latter is described in the readme.

One little thing of note is that the pics you are using as replacements must match the name exactly (obviously) but you can use jpegs and just rename them to .gif, and vice versa.

I'm also working on new player icons (new for 4.7). As much as I like the current ones, they're a little tough to distinguish on the field. Check out http://witwat.net/luke/javabbowl for an example of what I'm trying.
