Wolds Cup 2022 SW Regional - Postponed

Gert Bowl is back and for its 10th birthday and this time Bristol welcomes the Fling nation!

Gert Bowl X will be the home of the Fling Nation Wolds Cup Bristol Regional; part of the Fling Nations 1st world wide event Facebook Event Link

The event was to take place on the 9th and 10th July 2022 - we are now aiming for 17th and 18th Sept - I'll update title on confirmation.

There will be prizes for the actual tournament and scores you make on the day will go forward to the world wide event.

A FLING COACH MAY ENTER ONE AND ONLY ONE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT, TABLETOP OR ONLINE IN WHATEVER FORMAT THAT TAKES. YOU GET ONE SHOT AT THE WOLDS CUP.

This will not be NAF ranked as it is not open to any race and is if you haven't guessed yet is only open to once... the mighty Flings.

There is plenty of on-street parking around the venue.

Lunch
Food will not be included in the price but there are several shops and cafes with 5 mins walk and takeaways at Imperial Park. BIG also have a range of snacks and refreshments available.

Playing format

How it all works! Each tournament will have its own winner (i.e. winner on the day) but that's not the only glory to be won!

As listed below each and every coach from each and every regional tournament can work towards getting points for the 'Wolds Title Tally'.

Swiss Style, Resurrection Tournament
1,100,00 gp
2 Star Players from FNWC Approved List (see next post), Stars to be hired after 11 rostered players. Only 1 of these stars may cost 200,000 gp or more.
All Halfling inducements allowed. Sideline Coaches, Biased refs, Hot-Pot, Master Chef, etc. There may be additional inducements by Games Workshop in the time running up to the event all teams summitted shall be formed from released rules up to 1st April 2022.
No giants, wizards, special balls, special weather
No special play cards inducements are allowed.
No excess gp in the treasury used as ‘Underdog’ calculations. Teams will be 1.1 Mgp vs 1.1Mgp.

Skills:
Each coach is assigned 66 SPP, to spend on training up their team.
A maximum of 2 skills/stat increases are allowed of the same kind, over hteh entire team e.g. 2 Block, 2 +Ag, 2 Hail Mary Pass, etc.
Star Players are not eligible for extra skills or stat increases.
No single player on the team may have more than 2 extra skills/stat increases.
No random skills. Skills are bought at ‘chosen’ SPP costs for First Advancement costs. A second skill/stat on the same player will cost the Spp of the Second Advancement – see pg71 of the BB Season 2 Rulebok.
Note: Stat increases are chosen at 24 SPP and 28 SPP for the second on the same player.

1Pt PER FULL 3 TOUCHDOWNS
1Pt FOR EACH ONE TURN TOUCHDOWN (from the 1st turn of the drive of the game.)
1Pt CLEAN SHEET TD (Zero touchdowns scored against the coach)
1Pt CLEAN SHEET CAS (Zero casualties caused against the coach)

The above will be used to decide the tournament on the day.

‘WOLDS TITLE TALLY’ POINTS PER GAME - the following points will be submitted for world-wide event.

AIRMILES
Everytime a Fling is thrown forward a square and SUCESSFULLY lands counts as an ‘Airmile’. All ‘Airmiles’ are totalled, and you get 1pt for every 10 squares thrown e.g. 14 squares = 1.4pts

BROWNIE POINTS
These points are awarded for the prowess of the teams hired Chef. If you didn’t take one…… 1pt for each reroll stolen

STICK IN THE MUD
Not all things goes a team way and keeping your Treeman focused on the game and sucking up worms and spilt blood from the pitch is one of them. These will give NEGATIVE points to the ‘WOLDS TITLE TALLY’. -1pt for each root

GOT WOOD!
Each time one of the coaches Treemen (excluding Deeproot!) scores a touchdown he earns 5 points for the ‘WOLDS TITLE TALLY’.

The highest tally from all coaches will be declared the ultimate Uber-Fling, winner may name their own title for the fun of it!

Pug is interested in whether is can be captured in NAF rankings (also passes his warmest regards to you and the family). I am kind of assuming its a no and that's why you suggested contacting Andrea, if you have any advice feel free to share here or send me a PM.

I've not done any but have seen several on the NAF listings now.
I would point you both to Leipziger, who runs Stunty Slam as Specialist.

Rules update coming soon to tidy up which star players and inducements will be available will be available.

We are also thinking about prize support and similar... I need to have some idea of numbers for that. Please do start signing up if interested.

Hi All,

So not had a great take up on this yet... having talked to a few people at NAFC this weekend I understand there are a couple of comments:

1. This clashes with a couple of things PK&Q in London and one of the Bournemouth events
2. "What only flings?" - yes only flings

So nothing I can do about the 2nd comment, if flings aren't your thing; come and see us at Gert next year - or better yet let me know your preferred 'gimmick' for consideration of next years Gert!

But if we don't get at least 12 I'm going to have to look at pushing the date back.

I'll review number/interest on the 27th May. If it looks like we won;t get 12 on the day I'll have to postpone.

I think I we have to get to 12 for this to be eligible for Wolds Cup. If we've not reached 12 confirmed participants by this Sunday evening I may well have to postpone event to a 'better' date.
