Pearly Kings & Queens XII - 16/17 July 2016 - London
Hello wonderful Blood Bowlers!
The Pearly Kings & Queens tournament will be back again on the 16th and 17th of July 2016.
The event will be held at The Mad Hatter Hotel not far from Waterloo rail and tube station & Southwark tube station.
The event will be six games, four games on the Saturday and two on the Sunday due to a midday start.
We will be using the 'much heralded' Ironmanj rules for team building.
Get yourselves down to London!
General Information
Entry Fee
Entry will be £33.00 (£38.00 non-NAF including membership) but this will include a pub meal on both days. Sunday roast if you want it (only on the Sunday obviously). Appreciate this is slightly more than most tournaments, but we have a lovely venue in central London and you get two hot meals. Please send payment via PayPal to joehainstock (AT) googlemail.com (do not contract to @gmail.com). Could you select the 'gift' or 'paying a friend' option so I don't lose out on fees please?
Venue & How To Get There
The tournament will be held in the bar of the The Mad Hatter Hotel.
3-7 Stamford Street
London
SE1 9NY
The closest tube stations are Southwark and Blackfriars (just over the river), but Waterloo is also pretty close so it might be as easy to walk from there. Waterloo is also a national rail station. There are too many possible routes in London to list them all, but get in touch with me if you need advice.
The venue is inside the congestion charging zone and I doubt parking will be cheap, so driving is probably best avoided.
Accomodation
The venue itself is a hotel, but not a cheap one. However I would recommend the St Christopher's Inn hostel at the end of Southwark Street. A group of you could probably arrange a room to yourselves given enough notice.
Things To Bring With You
A painted team.
Your Blood Bowl board. Please bring a hard board if you have one rather than a roll one to fit the tables.
Dice.
Templates.
Two roster sheets (one for me, one for yourself and your opponent to refer to).
Ironmanj Rules
Pearly Kings & Queens will be using the CRP / LRB 6.0 rules.
The Illegal Procedure and 4-minute time limit rules will not be enforced, though you may use them if both coaches agree. There will be a time limit for games as a whole though, so if you play slowly we may have to call a result early.
We will be using the standard "Resurrection" rules: teams remain identical from game to game, with casualties, winnings, fan factor rolls etc. not carrying forward.
Undead or Nurgle teams may not keep 'raised' players from game to game.
Team Selection
Coaches may spend up to 1,200,000 gc on their teams.
Coaches may not include Star Players as part of their team unless they have the Secret Weapon or Stab skills (except Zara - she is not allowed). An exception to this rule are Halfling, Goblin, Ogre and Underworld teams, who may hire up to two Star Players as normal.
You may purchase any other Inducements except Wizards, Mercenaries or Special Play Cards as a permanent part of your team for their normal cost.
If a coach spends less than the 1.2m he will not be entitled to Inducements on a game by game basis.
Skills
Tier 1 skill = Block, Frenzy, Kick, Strip Ball, Sure Hands, Dodge, Leader, Guard, Mighty Blow and Claw.
Tier 2 skill = anything else.
1 point for the first instance of a Normal tier 2 skill.
2 points for any other instance of a Normal tier 2 skill.
2 points for the first instance of a Normal tier 1 skill.
3 points for any other instance of a Normal tier 1 skill.
+2 points if that skill is from a 'Doubles' category.
No player may have more than one extra skill. Star Players may not be given extra skills.
Teams have the following points to spend:
9 points - Undead, Wood Elf, Amazon, Chaos Dwarf, Lizardmen
11 points - Dwarf, Orc, Norse, Dark Elf, Skaven
13 points - High Elves, Humans, Pro Elves, Necromantic, Khemri
15 points - Slann, Underworld, Chaos Pact, Nurgle, Chaos, Vampires
17 points - Goblin, Halfling, Ogre
Example : My Chaos team has 15 points to spend. I take three Chaos Warriors with Block, the first costing 2 points and the next two costing 3 points each (total 8 points). I then take three Beastmen with Wrestle, the first costing me 1 point and the next two costing 2 points each (total 5 points). This leaves me with 2 points, with which I take a Tackle Beastman and an Extra Arms Beastman. 2+3+3+1+2+2+1+1 = 15.
Games and Scoring
Four games will be played on the Saturday and two on the Sunday. The first round will be drawn randomly, with all further rounds using the Swiss system. The overall winner will be the coach with the most points at the end of the day - there will be no final.
Points are scored as follows:
2 points for a win.
1 points for a draw.
0 points for a loss.
Coaches will be paired within Swiss randomly. The first tiebreaker at the end of the tournament is strength of schedule. After that coaches will be separated by least TDs conceded, TD difference, CAS difference, TDs scored, CAS inflicted and finally a duel to death with range ruler swords.
Only CAS that would count for SPPs and crowd pushes count towards these totals.

Re: Pearly Kings & Queens XII - 16/17 July 2016 - London
I'd love to come. Was stalking around this last year already.
If I cannot accomodate with a group at the hostel, however, the boarding prices in London kind of kill the opportunity. Is there anybody able and willing to give me asylum for the night?

That would be awesome. I think the hostel does have smaller single, double or twin rooms too if you end up travelling alone. London is also well connected with the Tube as you know, so if you find somewhere cheap elsewhere it will always be easy to get to the venue. I can't put you up at my place unfortunately as I live in a shared house and my limited floor space has already been snapped up!

Re: Pearly Kings & Queens XII - 16/17 July 2016 - London
I'm considering coming at this tourney, as i should be single this weekend (so available for a weekend tourney
), and London is only 2 hours from Brussels per Eurostar (i would arrive at St Pancrast at 9:00am and leave at 8pm)
1/ Concerning the hostel you recommend, which one would it be ? (to have a more accurate idea of the budget)

2/ I see already 14 applications. What is the max capacity you could welcome?
edit:forget this question i'm blind
