Block, I know you briefly answered in a PM, but why a bonus MVP to Ogres, but not Halflings or Goblins? Both are as bad as Ogres in league play, but they're both buggered for game 1 by the no inducements rule.

I can field that one....

I think you have misunderstood the rules regarding inducements. Inducements may not be taken as part of your starting team but you can take them at the start of each game. This includes the first game. The rule is there to make it clear that you cant buy a bloodwiser babe (or a star) and expect them to turn up for every game.

Ogres, Goblins, and Halflings are all weak races and lots of modern tournaments give them cheeky boosts to make them more attractive. We are a modern tournament and we like boosts but we didnt want to go crazy given that we are already using an unusual format. Halflings and Goblins are both weak but get alot of leverage out of the inducement system: both those teams seem attractive to me because you can consistently bombard people with inducements while tearing great chunks out of their teams and generally causing mayhem. Ogres are expensive so they are unlikely to expect inducements and their inducements are relatively weak even when they do get them. We reckon that an MVP adds a bit of extra hurrah factor for anyone brave enough to enter the arena with ogres.

Not unlike the boost you are giving nurgle in the ARBBL? If there are people going who genuinely see this as an issue then we'll happily respond to the enraged masses :)

My only complaint is the absence of the cards. I blame sillysod.

We cut the cards because they arent instantly recognisable. You have to be pretty hardcore to remember what "magic helmet" or "lucky clover" does and when they should be played. This would be ok but we dont want to waste any time - if you add cards then that means people thumbing through all of the card tables trying to figure out what they should buy or what their opponent might do. Rather than saying "50k, I guess I'll have a bloodwiser babe, done".

... I sort of wish I hadnt pointed that out to blocknroll though. I like cards ;)

Sillysod, there is a simple solution. Buy some cards from daloonie shaman. Most people won't use cards, but for those that will...

I'll have mine and inkpwn might be persuaded to bring his.

No cards.

People will want to know what they are up against... cards dont allow that unless you give people some reading time. Maybe next year :)

I've allowed cards for the last two years of Exiles Open (yes I know it's only been running for 2 years) and so far only 3 teams used them. In year one it was an accident as one player only had a 1M team, in 115 tourny, so I gave him 3 cards a game. And in the second year the same player did it again, but on purpose this time, and one other. As I have a complete set of homemade cards made up it wasn't an issue to draw and read them at the start of each game. The point I'm getting at it that out of 44 teams only 3 chose to use the cards anyway. So it wouldnt be a big thing.

But I revert to Rule One. It's your event, you're in charge. :)

I agree, lunchmoney. Its their event, they're in charge, and I think it'll be great fun regardless.

But I may quietly bombard blocknroll with PMs arguing the case of the cards. :D

Well for what its worth i was the other who used the cards at the exiles bowl and they help make an otherwise very dull underworld team fun to play.

Back on subject very unlikely that i can make tourney this year as daughters birthday is on the 28th, unless you can hire a bouncy castle for the hobbit

+1 for the bouncy castle.

I'd be willing to pay an extra £5 entrance fee.

I just happen to think that underworld may be my choice of team, as potentially they could be fun in this format (even without cards). but i admit im living in some dream-like existence where I imagine I will have 5 goblins with horns, two heads claw and block. hey, it could happen!
-1 for bouncy castles, just change your daughters DOB by deedpoll...... ;)

check out the blog for a fantastic interview with Cornish Mikey, hes going to be supplying a fully painted pro elf team as the main prize for the ACC this year - 16 players plus three cheerleaders and three stars - Prince Moranion, Zara the Slayer and Jordell!
An amazing prize from an amazing painter!
it really is one of the most interesting things I've read in ages http://albioncoastcup.blogspot.com/2011 ... sh_22.html

I'll look forward to reading the corninsh mikey blog when I have time - missed it the first time. Love the prizes on offer though.

Any painting competitions?

(continues lobbying for special play cards)

Venue, timings, price will be announced this weekend. Cornish Mikey has sent through the first pic of the team taking shape (I understand he has actually finished it and more pics to follow this weekend!) The first pic is at the blog now http://albioncoastcup.blogspot.com/
