Flame Bowl III - November 27th and 28th 2010 - SOLD OUT!

Post by Nippy Longskar »

At last!

After years (well almost) in the wilderness, Flame Bowl has found a new home and is once more set to become a hotbed for the bitter rivalry and intrigue of team-based fantasy football!

Eh?

For those of you that don't know, or have forgotten, Flame Bowl is a Manchester-based weekend tourney. Players band up into groups of 4 like minded souls (or else are flung headlong into Team Merkin) and battle it out to see which club/region/etc are the hottest at Blood Bowl. Hence Flame Bowl, see?

A Brave New World!

Sadly we weren't able to secure last years venue again for 2010, but happily as one door closes, another opens, and so this year's venue is:

The Hellfire Club (click to visit their site)

...which is a horror themed restaurant in the Mancunian suburbs. Huzzah!

The Hellfire has space for 40, so that's our headroom for this year. Would be awesome to get 10 full teams!

Still a good excuse!

All money raised by the event will be donated to Cancer Research UK. Flamebowl has managed to raise over £2000 for Cancer Research so far, and hopefully this year will see that figure creep a little higher!

I want goodies!

Prizes will include spot prizes each round, some exciting Flame Bowl giveaways, Flame Bowl pitches for the winning team and a fully painted team for the overall individual winner. Oh, and the Stunty Cup, of course.

Powergaming Time!

The rules document is available here:

Flame Bowl III Rules Link

So what do I need to do?

Ideally, band together with your 3 closest Blood Bowling pals, come up with a team name and pay up. However, if you'd like to come and don't have a team to join, don't worry, as I'll start a thread in the 'Tournament Discussions' section for people to ally up. In the tournament's inaugural year, a team of random misfits actually won - so there's hope for everyone!

Tickets cost £25; or £30 for Non NAF members, incuding your NAF subscription (apologies for the increase in price this year, I hope it's not too steep)

If you'd like to pay via Paypal, please send payments, using the gift option, to:

Flamebowl@hotmail.com

Alternatively if you wish to pay by cheque please PM me and I'll let you know the address to send it to.

If you have a team of 4 interested then let me know on this thread and I'll update the list of teams. If there's 1, 2 or 3 of you then pop a post up on the 'Flame Bowl III Teammates' thread in Tournament Discussions and we'll get it sorted.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best tournaments going. Can't wait.

However, a caveat Mark.

I am very interested in hearing the details of this. I hope it won't be a buzz kill. Team tournaments are all about bringing your best frocks (i.e. races) and trying to win for your mates. The big guns bringing their 'A' game and duking it out for the spoils. If 2-3 coaches on each team will have their hands tied behind their backs, well ... that ain't fun. I'd almost go as far to say we should consider whether it should be NAF ranked. If I rock up with my Undead and only have to play Nurgle/Humans/Pro Elves ... well, that ain't right. Alternatively, the idea of me taking Nurgle for a weekend and getting trashed so that my teammate can take Wood Elves and rack up 6 easy wins doesn't seem like it adds fun (for either of us).

This should be seriously considered. There is no other tournament that has ever made a coach use a crappy race. By all means give the weaker races an incentive for people to use them. Extra points etc.

Dunno where Joe gets off with his 'caveats'! Who does he think he is? ;)

To be fair I see where Joe's coming from. Interesting concept, as long as it doesn't go overboard.

But Nips will be well aware of all this. It's his tourney and I'm sure it will be another trailblazing classic.

My own nipples are positively erect at the thought of another Flame Bowl!
