VII. DUNGEON BOWL 2010

Post by CoachRattenfetza »

Bob: Good morning sport fans and welcome to the VII. Dungeon Bowl for this weekend’s contest! My name is Bob Bifford and with me is Jim Johnson – Hello Jim!

Jim: Hi Bob! In a few hours this year’s Dungeon Bowl tournament will start; up to 90 coaches will field their teams, to be the one to lift the cup - the champion!

Anticipation for these six hard contested games are high, can you get us a quick overview about this year’s rules and the favourites?

Bob: Each coach got 1.050.000 GP to build their team – there is only one Starplayer allowed, but just a couple of teams invested their gold in these loners, yet. Most of them recruited some extra Coaching Staff, one or two substitutes and the obligatory Apothecary!

It is important to know, that each casualty will be replaced by eager rookies, waiting for their chance – so no team suffers injuries during the tournament, but still during the game.

Jim: What about the games itself, will all be held in dungeons?

Bob: Like the past six years, only the two finalists (after round 5) will face-off in the depths of Barack Varr’s catacombs here at the Drakenburg.

Jim: Can you tell the spectators something about the teams which have been signed up, yet and leave maybe a comment or two about their role and chances?

Bob: The Deadline for registration will be in about half an hour – but the teams had to sign in weeks before to get their starting number for this tourney; so there is a wild mixture of races.

All in all, every team has the chance to get their hands (claws,…) on the trophy – poor Halfling or Goblin teams will have to fight a little bit harder, also our Big Guys (my dear fellow Ogres!) or Vampires (Hey Jim!) will have their difficulties to stay focused on winning every single game. There are some teams that will find themselves under the attention of every Dirty Player, or Blitzing attack – like our Elf-friends out there, or a Skink-Saurus-Combo. Also tough (Thick Skull anyone?!?) teams with one, or two ball handlers or a stack of re-rolls on their side, will be ranked high enough to make a difference. What about these Undead teams, rolling down the pitch and over their opposition in cages made of bones and rotten flesh?! Those Ghouls are faster than they smell…

BUT: There is the saying that “Defense wins tournaments” – maybe we will see some surprises and in a few hours this tourney is well underway!

Jim:Three teams have signed up that should be in favourite roles, at least two for the title and the other…

Bob: Yes – the CHEEKY BERLINS are back! After there consecutive win of Dungeon Bowl I & II in 2404 and 2405, they kept to themselves, but now they seem to be back as strong as ever! Coach Denis “Floridaboy” Müller seems to want to go for the Hattrick!

Talking about dynasties - there are the current champions: Norse SNOWFLAKES ASSASSINES – hard-hitting, cunning playing and most-of-the-time-drunken, and that’s just for their coach Tom “Kwék” Neven! They are back for more!

The third featured team managed some other records over the past six years; up to 25 lost games out of 30 games played, player fatalities at 96.6 % per year and constantly low position at the last third of the tournament table: Here comes the CATERING SERVICE! A long serving squad of Halflings (OK, just the teamname and their jerseys) under the capable hands of Master Chef Daniel “Dan-Zan” Zandecki. They will be back for the “Best Stunty” Award this year!

ROUND I
Jim: Round I is well underway – time for some facts and figures:

86 teams attending

8 Amazon
1 Chaos
2 Chaos Dwarf
0 ( Chaos Pact)
3 Dark Elf
8 Dwarf
3 Goblin
1 Halfling
3 High Elf
2 Human
1 Khemri
3 Lizardman
0 Ogre
12 Orcs
2 Pro Elf
2 Necromantic
6 Norse
2 Nurgle
10 Skaven
0 (Slann)
3 Undead
0 (Underworld)
1 Vampire
12 Wood Elf

The schedule is arranged by the “swiss system”; so teams will face off each other randomly. A chance for Halflings and Goblins to put their feet on sacred ground in "Emperors Stadium" at table #1.

Good luck to all, especially the British contingent - wish I was there.

Were the three new races allowed to be used and no one brought them, or were they not allowed?

RESULTS ROUND 5:
Deadrock Stranglers : Vaporsquad of Pestilence 1 : 3 (3:1)
FC Ratcelona : Dodgy Dwarves 1 : 2 (1:2)
South Park Rats : Bärn Dragons 1 : 1 (0:1)

Bob: And we got two finalists: the Vaporsquad of Pestilence and Dodgy Dwarves will take their chance with the Dungeon!

But first of all, we will recapitulate the rules for this year’s Dungeon Bowl final:

SETTING UP: Only 6 players will start the game, in their Endzone.
END OF THE GAME: The first team to score wins!
FEATURES: The ball is hidden in one out of six wooden chests…
SUBSTITUTES & TELEPORTERS: There are six teleporters strewn over the pitch – the players can use them to change their position in the Dungeon and at the beginning of each round they must teleport up to one Player from their Teams Reserves Box.

Coach "Flix" chooses to go first; his team more than just motivated to win in the finals. After their appearence in the very first finals of 2004, they nearly made it every year into Top 10 position, but never again into the showdown; until now.

They have played well so far (TDF: 17 - TDA: 8 - FF: 11 - FA: 12) going 4 W - 0 L - 1 T.
The Dodgy Dwarves had made their way as they went 4 W – 0 L – 1 T, too. Marking a TDF: 9 – TDA: 2 – FF: 12 – FA: 5 out of 5 consecutive games.

With both rosters full other “Blockers” and “Guards”, this final should be very intense, when the Best Offense of the tournament so far, meets a solid (2nd best) defence (2 TDA in 5 games).

THE GAME

We will some live action from our reporters Micha and Holger; they are right right there with both teams. Hello guys!

Micha: Thanks Jim! And we are off with the action: the Vaporsquad (VoP) opens the game with their fast players and their first substitution teleported from the Dugout right into the middle of the field. The Dodgy Dwarves (DD) see their Blocker teleported into the outer skirts of the field – it seems to be no good position for a player this slow, at the moment. An explosion sounds trough the dark catacombs – these two chests, did not contain a ball at all...

Holger: Yes, but both players on each team, got only a few bruises and will shake the dust off, before continuing to force their way down the field.

Micha: The Dwarves are ready for some action of their favour: attacking the oncoming masses of Skaven with skill, but we are still waiting for some blood...

Holger: But it seems, that both teams are more focused on scoring Touchdowns, than on hitting their opponents; the roster of the “DD” contains only 11 players, while the “VoP” got 13 (can you see any coincidence with the holy number of their rat-god in here?!) players under contract.

Micha: They have found the ball! Within the territory of the “DD”, one of their starting Blockers, opens the right chest and they are in control of it right now!

Holger: We’ll see, how long... Coach “Flix” sends his agile and fast players over the central bridge to meet the rolling dwarf cage. Will they break trough and win by sheer numbers, or will the dwarves pulverise them and lift the cup? We’ll be right back after a short commercial spot.
