Interesting to see only 32 participants this year, from 52 (i think) last year. Not many tournaments have taken this big a hit due to the credit crunch...

I saw them give him an envelope, not sure what was in it. The certificates weren't even framed this year though.

I got a certificate, one of those miniature NAF trophies and £25 pounds worth of Games Workshop vouchers.

Congrats Stu! :)

Well, some vouchers is definitely an improvement. Maybe they do listen.

It's a good prize I think. Subway for lunch seemed like an improvement on what I remember from the year before too.

Well that is definately an improvement.

What about organisation and time keeping?

Subway was an inspired choice, better tournament this year IMO. Obviously winning something makes me bias though :)

Must admit I didn't go mainly due to the slow decline of the quality of the tournament.

It was top notch when Dave ran it, but last year it almost felt like we were an inconvenience to the organisers.

Of course I am just old and grumpy. Nice to hear it was better this year, but sad to see such a long running tournament only have six more people than the ACC this year.

Well .... don't get carried away. The organisation was still a shambles. Guys didn't understand or implement their own points system til round 4. The rounds were incorrectly drawn 4 out of 6 times IIRC, and Lycos had to step in. There was no understanding of the Swiss system in cases of people having already played each other before.

The important stuff seemed to work though. I put food higher up in the chain of relevance than being anal about the ranking system :D

No don't think so, I thought it was continuing it's decline. Not sure I'll be back next year.

I think folks are too polite to say anything. Don't worry Dave, I'll be there next year, schedule permitting!

Dave, in the name of all that's holy, tell them to use Score! Wil sort out the issues of the standings/draws etc. with no problem - hell, I think it already comes with the Spiky ruleset pre-programmed.

The other Andover crew are seriously considering attending a different tourney next year instead of Spiky (and when you consider that a couple of them have done 4 or 5 Spikys, and that until this year, the only other to ytourney any of them had been to was our own).

however, they'll be happier to hear you're more involved - I believe that the general consensus, at least to those I've spoken to, was it started going downhill once you took less of a role.
