Okay guys, the bugs are gone, the Spike site is up. Registration to start immediately. www.spike2009.com

$40 pre-reg. 6-game swiss. And we are giving away 2 Ulfwerener models for every participant.

Door Prizes will surpass the $400 mark we set last year. I can't say for sure what exactly we'll end up with, but I can for certain that we will be giving away a full Tyrannid army this year.

I'll be travelling from the Uk for this, any suggestions on accomodation? Obviously there are rooms at the venue, but I'd like to check out some other options close by if anyone can suggest any?

Well, The Compass Point Inn would be your best bet for price unless you are staying in motels, hostels or b&b's. I'll have to talk to our Events Coordinator for the pricing, but I imagine similar to last year.

Or are you not caring about price so much and want to see Vancouver at the same time? The Compass Point is right at the end of the skytrain route, so car or no car, it's a piece of cake to get to from anywhere in greater Vancouver. So you could essentially stay in a glitzy hotel downtown and hop on the skytrain a block away from either hotel and get to the Spike in 40 minutes. Just let us know what you're looking for.

Certainly not looking for anything too glitzy, just somewhere basic and clean where i can drop my luggage and get some sleep at nights.

I live in Surrey where the Spike is held and I still wouldn't mind crashing at the hotel. Nothing like waking up and the BB tourney a few floors down. :)

I will also be selling all my figures. The Rudolf mini, the ST4 Welf, the AV 9/10 Delf and both mutated Goblins. One with 4 arms and one with 2 heads, which brings new meaning to "2 eyes in the back of yer head". I will also be selling all my THUNDERBOWL comics #1-3.
Brett will be selling the amazing Rolljordan minis as well. This is going to be one Sweet tourney. We had killer give aways last year and this year should be better!!!

Well then I'd say the Compass Point Inn is your best bet for price and convenience. I'll find out the discount pricing at the hotel for the event asap, as well as a few other links to hotels/motels in the immediate area for comparison.

Winner of the Spike will get an authentic Thunderbowl Jersey with the words "SPIKE! CHAMPION" and the #09 on the back. There will be #09 on both shoulders as well. Here are some samples of the logo on a hockey jersey and a picture of the LA Raiders jersey that it will be on.

Hey,

Sorry this took so long but the Events Coordinator at the hotel takes a little while sometimes to get back to people. Anyway, we will be getting the same rate as last year:

Compass Point Inn (home of the Spike)
corporate discount: $89.00 CAD per night
1 large room, 2 queen size beds

I imagine additional occupants will add $10 per head up to 4 people as they did last year. I recommend that you book this quickly as I'm not exactly sure of how many of these we have. I positive there was at least 10 rooms booked at last year's Spike and everyone I talk to received the discount.

Here's their website: http://www.compasspointinn.com/

When you talk to reception, mention the Spike tournament on August 1st and 2nd, and if that doesn't work, mention the Thunderbowl event on August 1st and 2nd, and if this still dosn't work, tell them it's a Vancouver Gaming Guild event on August 1st and 2nd. When that works, tell them you're booking a room for those nights and you were told you were receiving the corporate discount because you are attending the event.

Colin wrote:Booked the time off from work (for travelling out there) so all I have to do is arrange a way of getting there. Hopefully there will be some others coming from Alberta that I'll be able to catch a ride with (flying is waaayyyy too expensive).
See you guys in August.
Have you decided what you might be playing at the Spike Colin? If you could let me know your team name and race so I can update the registration page that would be great. Remember - you can always change this prior to the opening day - we just want an idea of team composition and remove the blanks from the site.

Cheers,
Gj.

3 weeks to go guys. Looking forward to it. :D

Still haven't heard anything from the guys here in Alberta, so if I don't hear anything fairly soon, I probably won't be going as it may be too late to get things sorted out (transprotation, place to stay, etc).
So things are up in the air at the moment, looking more and more like I might not make it out there. (which will suck)
