Star Player cards

Post by marjacklu »

Hi all

I'm new to this forum so I thought it might be better to post here, but please let me know if my query should be placed in another section.

I am interested in buying all the Star Player cards that exist for Blood Bowl, but I am unsure how many cards there are, and also where I can get hold of them.

I know there are some Star Player cards available in the 'Blood Bowl Star Players Handbook', although I am unsure as to how many cards are there.

I also believe there are some cards in the 'Blood Bowl Companion', but once again I don't know how many exist in this book.

Are there also other cards available as part of the Blood Bowl game sets, and if yes, are these cards also included in the above mentioned books?

Are there any other sources that I might need to check for cards?

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer on this topic, or if you can guide me in any way.

Cheers.

The cards in the Companion and 'Blood Bowl Star Players Handbook' are for a previous version of the game (2nd edition), so aren't compatible with the current rules, while the Star Player cards that game with the 3rd edition box and Deathzone are also out-dated - the current legal stars are all listed in the back of the rulebook.

That said, I'll try and dig out my old cards to let you know how many there were (unless someone beats me to it).

There were also some cards printed for 2nd ed. in White Dwarf.

Many thanks for your reply Darkson.

I don't really mind if the cards aren't compatible with the current version of Blood Bowl as I'm really interested in collecting the actual cards, whatever version they might be. I've seen some cards selling on ebay, but I wasn't sure if there was a checklist for the players, which I might be able to use to assist me in collecting them.

Thanks again mate.

Cheers.

I count 24 cards from Star Players and 46 from the Blood Bowl Companion. I can make a list of them this evening or tomorrow.

Many thanks Infernarl and Groo for your help.

I was hoping that this forum would be a good place to find out this information, but I hadn't expected to receive any replies so soon.

The cards on the site that you mentioned Infernarl look great. It doesn't seem to be a complete list of all the Star Players as there are (only) 57 entries, but it's a good start.

Groo, I just saw two listings on ebay (ref. no. 400076146589 & 290354041516), which mention that there are 48 Star Players in the handbook.

There are also two ebay listings for the Companion book (290354041566 & 220480592191), which mention that there are 22 Star Players in this book.

However, that would add up to the same number of cards that you mentioned in your post. It would be great if you could list all your cards if you have time, although I appreciate that this is a big job and you might not have time.

Darkson, do you know which cards were given away with White Dwarf, and which edition(s) they were with?

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate your help.

According to the back of my 'Companion", there were 22 cards inclosed, so I'd say the eBay listings are correct - I can't find my SP book at the moment, so I can't conmfirm that one.

As for the WD ones, I'm not 100% sure, as I removed those cards years ago, but in the 100's. From here: http://www.midgardbb.com/BBMagArticles/ ... icles.html I think you're looking for 101 (6 cards) and 108 (12 cards). If I find my cards (I expect they're with the SP book!  ) I'll list them.

[Edit] However, I've just remember that some/all of the WD cards were the ones reprinted in the Companion, though I can't recall which of the 22 Comp ones were of the 18 printed earlier in WD.

Many thanks for the information Darkson.

Hopefully it was all of the WD cards that were included in the Companion book, as that would save me having to track down those WD issues.

Cheers again for your help.

the ones in that file are the ones legal under the current rules. there are old stars, like rasta tailspike, that don't exist officially.

I should have checked my books first, my mistake.

The way I was dividing then was by the differences of the pictures, on some cards the background shows the player on the pitch while others show a blank background. I thought the color ones were from the SP but according this pic they're mixed.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/160364?size=medium

Then I notice that 48 of the cards have the name of the team the player belongs to and 22 don't so I'm guessing the ones with the team are from the Star Players book.

Anyway here's the list.

-Star Players-
Axebreaker Jones
Asperon Thorn
Barik Farblast
Dieter Hammerlash
Dirty Dan
Duke Luthor Von Hawkfire

Hi again and thanks for all your help. A big thanks to Groo for putting together the list of Star Players in the books - no easy task given the spellings of some of those names!

I had a look at the lists from the books and compared them to the lists mentioned by Infernarl at the following website:

Those names noted in red were found in both the book lists and on the website.

The names in green that were mentioned on the website may correspond to some of the names in the two books, but either the spelling of the name was different or a part of the name was missing. Therefore it was very hard for me to verify whether the names in green do match up as I do not have the pictures of these characters from the books. Any help with this would be appreciated.

The other names from the website seem to be a list of other characters not found in the books. Perhaps someone might know if these are from the actual Board Games, or maybe from WD or the Citadel Journals. Any help with information on where these cards can be found would be fantastic.

There's also one other Star Player:

The Deathroller

which I found listed on ebay, but I'm not sure where this comes from either.

Thanks again everyone for all your help.
Cheers.

I'm not sure the Death Rollers ever was a Star Player, in 2th ed and the LRB, I don't have 3rd ed, it's a secret weapon. Did the eBay listing show a card for it?

Edit: The card was in Death Zone.

Hi Groo

The ebay listing was for a set of Star Player cards (ref. 380164002379) and when I recently contacted the seller to ask which cards were included in this set, he mentioned that one of the cards was 'The Deathroller'.

Could this card be similar to the Star Player cards, with various stats, etc?

Groo, if you have the Star Players and Companion book cards close to hand, could you check to see if any of the following are the same:

Zug & Mighty Zug
Ugroth 'Ripper' Bolgrot & Ripper Bolgrot/Ugroth Bolgrot
Morg'th N'hthrog/M'gorg'gn'throg & Morg ‘N’ Thorg

Star Players Book

Morg'th N'hthrog
Zug

Companion Book

M'gorg'gn'throg
Ugroth 'Ripper' Bolgrot

Website

Mighty Zug
Morg ‘N’ Thorg
Ripper Bolgrot
Ugroth Bolgrot

Thanks for your ongoing help.
Cheers.

Ugroth 'Ripper' Blogrot and Ugroth Blogrot are the same, both are orcs with chainsaws.
Zug and Mighty Zug are the same.
Morg'th N'hthrog & Morg ‘N’ Thorg are probably the same, Morg'th N'hthrog is a blocker and Morg ‘N’ Thorg has block. M'gorg'gn'throg is a blizter.
I have no idea where Ripper Blogrot came from.
