1.1 Real Malaria (Nurgle) team

Post by MarzM »

Hi there,

I know they are perhaps not the best however i really fancy converting a Nurgle team and painting them in the Real Madrid colours (I'm not a Real fan...but in my head it looks good)

However i was wondering about the roster. If it's a 1.1 event and i get 8 skills (1 double) what would people suggest? The 2 main ideas i have are as below.

The safe (?) option

Beast - Guard or Stand firm

Warrior - Block
Warrior - Block
Warrior - Block
Warrior - Block

Pestigor - Sure Hands
Pestigor - Might Blow

Rotter - Kick
Rotter
Rotter
Rotter
Rotter

2x Re-rolls

Option 2

Beast - Leader

Warrior - Block
Warrior - Block
Warrior - Block
Warrior - Block

Pestigor - Sure Hands
Pestigor - Might Blow
Pestigor - Tackle

Rotter
Rotter
Rotter
Rotter
Rotter

1 Re-roll (plus leader)

Opinions?

One other option I guess would be

Beast
Warrior
Warrior
Warrior
Warrior

Pestigor
Pestigor
Pestigor

Rotter
Rotter
Rotter
Rotter

2x rerolls.

This option I get because tier 2 teams get an extra 20k. After all...I guess a Pestigor is better than a Rotter. With this however I only get 7 skills (1 being a double).

Hi MarzM - tough choices. I have played in tournaments with similar rules. TV110 is always light for Nurgle. On the plus side, 8 or more skills works well for them.

My experience suggests you need 13 players (you need to get to the 2nd half with 11 men to perform well). 12 is not enough (I recall taking 12 players once, in a high TV tourney where I was able to take all 9 positional players - with 9 x Regen and lots of skills). I suggest you consider:

Beast (Block)
4 x Warriors (4 x Block)
3 x Pests (1 x Sure Hands, 2 x Wrestle)
5 x Rotters (1x Block)
1 x RR
1 x FF

Playing with 1 RR is tough, it helps if you have some experience along these lines. But it is viable with 8 x Block/Wrestle. [If you are not comfortable playing with 1 x RR, take Leader (but I suggest on a Warrior, rather than on the Beast, giving S-Firm or B-Tackle to the Beast).]

A Beast and 4 Warriors all with Block is intimidating and frustrating to play against. You maximise the chances of your opponent getting no-result blocks. The Beast becomes more active with Block (e.g. he can take Block or Blitz actions early in the turn). His M-Blow comes more into play. He is more likely to be mobile when playing the role of cage corner on offense.

Wrestle on at least 2 Pests is essential. They are your Blitzers and ball hunters. Wrestle is never wasted (unlike Tackle). Wrestle works as well against Blodge as Block+Tackle does. It can also frustrate the opponent during his turn (something Nurgle specialise in).

The team is vulnerable to losing the S-Hands Pest. If this happens, consider using the Block Rotter as the ball carrier on offense. In normal play this seemingly quiet player is handy (e.g. for a Block on the line of scrimmage, freeing a Warrior to move).

Hope that helps.

Another way to get a second RR is to drop a Warrior for a Rotter. Not ideal, but I have done it on numerous occasions.

But with your tourney rules, I find it hard to resist the attractions of 4 Warriors and a Beast all with Block!
