Did the 2nd edition have rules for Rat Ogres?

Post by dooovall »

I still enjoy 2nd edition Blood Bowl but have never been able to locate where rules for Rat Ogres appear. I have the base set, Star Players, Companion, and Dungeonbowl. I've looked through old issues of White Dwarf. Were official 2nd edition Rat Ogre rules ever published? If so, where?

No.

I don't recall for sure but wasn't the Big Guys thing added later?
Trolls for Orcs, Ogres for Human...
I think they were added in the LRB-era, right?

Nope. Ogres, Trolls, Minos and Treemen were all in 2nd ed.

The oldest rulebook I have access to is the LRB 1.3.
In there, the Rat Ogre is already included, only that the Big Guys weren't part of the team list but had their own section in the rulebook.

There it is like this:
  • Kroxigors play for Lizardmen
  • Minotaurs play for Chaos, Chaos Dwarf and Norse
  • Ogres play for Chaos, Dwarf, Goblin, Halfling, Human, Norse and Orc
  • Rat Ogres play for Skaven
  • Treemen play for Halfling and Woodelf
  • Trolls play for Chaos, Chaos Dwarf, Goblin and Orc
Halfling and Goblins were already allowed to have two of the Big Guys.

LRB is 3rd edition dude. I never played before then so couldn't say but my guess is if they weren't in 2nd and were in the LRB as we no then Rat Ogres appeared first in 3rd edition.

For the clear record ... LRB is NOT 3rd edition.

In order of official rules as approved by GW as the official rules:

1st Edition
2nd Edition
3rd Edition
4th Edition (sometimes referred to as Gold Edition)
LRB 1.0
LRB 1.1
LRB 1.2
LRB 1.3
LRB 2.0
LRB 3.0
LRB 4.0
LRB 5.0
CRP also know as LRB 6.0 also known as the Icepelt Rulebook
Blood Bowl 2016 also referred to as 5th Edition
