Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!
Don't understand a particular rule or just need to clarify something? This is the forum for you. With 2 of the BBRC members and the main LRB5/6 writer present at TFF, you're bound to get as good an answer as possible.
I don't like that one. To make a Dodge roll, the rulebook says to look up the players Agility on the Agility Table to find what number is needed, and THEN make the die roll. All Break Tackle says is you may use your Strength instead of Agility.(pg 8 in LRB5+ and CRAP)
So I plan to Dodge.
I look up my Agility, and don't like the odds.
So I choose to use Break Tackle instead, and find I need an X+ to succeed now.
Make Dodge roll.

You might not like it, but it is the general assumption that Break Tackle is a dice roll modifier like any other such skill.
Latest time it was asked: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=27983&hilit=break+tackle
all skills you choose to use or not after seeing the dice roll, this is the rule, hence you do the dodge roll first and then decide if you want to use break tackle or not

Yeah, it is plain as day if you read the exact wording without assuming rules from other games apply. Just seems like it takes so much out of the coaches hands that would reward coaching decisions as much as skill rolls.
Even if you choose or not to use Break Tackle before your roll... you'll probably choose it when the odd are better than ag...So why would you choose not to use it?
Aino - I don't know if this answers your question, but a very typical situation for the use of Break Tackle (which can only be used once per turn) is as follows:
A Bull Centaur (6429) with Break Tackle (and a Team Re-roll) plans to Blitz a 4-cornered cage (no Guards), but he first has to dodge away from an opposing player that is standing next to him. So he rolls first to dodge away:
- If he rolls a 4+. he dodges away without needing to use Break Tackle, so he carries on and attempts to dodge into the cage to Blitz the ball carrier (to do this he needs a 5+ with Break Tackle, which, with a Re-roll, is a 5 in 9 chance).
- If he rolls a 2 or 3, he dodges away by using Break Tackle, and then he Blitzes one of the cage corners instead (because he can no longer use Break Tackle, so the odds of getting at the ball carrier are reduced).
So, in summary, the BC has a 50% chance of making a sack attempt on the ball carrier in the cage (at decent odds), without undue risk, because of the judicious use of Break Tackle.

Hope this helps.
Actually it does answer my question and it helps
Somehow I don't recall BT could only be used once! Mr Al Zheimer is getting at me I think
