Fanatic / Ball & Chain Questions

Post by AviStetto »

1) Can the coach of a player with Ball & Chain use a team reroll to reroll the move direction roll?

2) If a player with Ball & Chain blocks one of his teammates, who can assist? Can the opposing coach assign his players to assist?

3) If a player with Ball & Chain moves into a square with a prone player, and causes a casualty, does he earn Star Player Points?

#1 Yes, or pro.
#2 Isn't really covered by the rules. reading through assists it would seem the logical thing is that no other players can assist because they aren't adjacent to an "enemy player".
#3 No SPPs. You have to roll block dice to get SPPs.

1) The reason I ask is that the reroll rules in the Competition Rules Pack say
Team re-rolls represent how well trained a team is. A coach may use a team re-roll to re-roll any dice roll (other than Scatter, Distance, Direction, Armour, Injury or Casualty rolls) made by a player on his own team who is still on the pitch during their turn (even if the dice roll was successful).
That "Direction" roll exclusion would seem to apply here.

2) This one is ambiguous just reading the rules...
The same coach is both the attacking and defending coach, so it reads like the opposing coach does not get to declare any assists.
Perhaps since there isn't an "enemy player" involved in the block, no players meet that first requirement for an assist.
And even if you allow that one or the other player is the "enemy" players still wouldn't be allowed to assist if they are in the tackle zone of a player from the "opposing team" (unless they have guard), or if they're not standing or have no tackle zones.

3) That was what I thought as well.

All three of these came up on a single action by a fanatic in my game this week. We played it with no re-roll, no assists on blocking a team mate and no SPPs for a casualty on a prone player.

The rules say that you get SPPs if a CAS is the result of a block. It doesn't say you have to throw block dice.
I think it's a matter of interpretation.
The B&C skill states that if you move into an occupied square you throw a block. However if the player in the occupied square is already stunned or prone, you push him back and get immediately to the injury part instead of throwing a block (I read this as throw the block dice).
So you could say you just skip the part of throwing block dice but it is still considered a block.
I could be wrong though.

I never considered it a block, they are prone, you can't block prone players

stab is more of a block than this and that doesn't give SPP either ;]

Block p.9 of C.R.A.P.
You may only make a block against a standing player – you may not block a player who has already been Knocked Down.
So no SPPs for hitting downed players.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Well designer intent when we added the distance/direction was to clarify kick offs and throw ins could not be rerolled. Ball & Chain can use rerolls on direction.
