Scale of Big Guys - where to get a troll that matches?

Post by wn1492 »

Hi All,

I'm looking for a couple of trolls to join a couple of Orc teams i have. The first is a 3rd Ed original orc team (the plastics from the box), and the 2nd Orc is from the 2016 box (the new plastics from the box...).

After a while really looking around at the alternatives, i plumbed for one of the older trolls from Gaspez arts (along with some of their Gobo's), or more specifically the Neomics range. The scale was way off, and i was really disappointed, and to be honest, for the price i felt a bit robbed.

http://www.gaspez-arts.com/orc/neomics-troll-1.html

I've attached a recent image with the 3rd ed black orc for comparison.

.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a couple of great troll mini's that actually match the scale of the old and new plastic orc teams?

Cheers loads

What I don't understand: Do you think the Troll is to short or to tall?
In the picture you provided, you chose a black orc, who already are a bit taller than normal orcs.
And the Troll is, although hunched, about a head taller than the orc.

So, in my opinion, he fits pretty nicely, tbh.

I took the liberty to alter your photo a bit, turning the troll a bit so both feet are the same (base) height and put him closer to the orc.

And, btw, the website you linked clearly states the trolls height with "about 45 mm".

I agree with Regash, looks exactly the size I would like in a troll. Perhaps you'd be better off giving dimensions of the Troll you would like instead of the nebulous "match the scale" criteria.

Yeah, maybe i wasn't clear. The troll just feels really small. It doesn't stand out as a big guy alongside the rest of the team. All of the other big guys I have stand out.

Do you have any suggestions where to get bigger trolls?

Cheers

Willy, I'd guess. While I don't have their models, they tend to be much larger in all dimensions.

The Willy troll looks pretty good next to 2016 orcs, should be pretty large next to older ones. It also is a good looking model, if a bit painful with the moldlines. I painted one yesterday and kept finding some I had overlooked, to the point where I just left some because I couldn't be bothered anymore.

A pic from my blog, might help ya. From left to right: 2016 Dwarf, Willy Troll, and 2017 GW Troll.

The GW Troll is very large, but his default pose has his left hand covering his face. After trying to modify the pose, I still wasn't that happy with him, and sold him off. I ended up going with all Willy Trolls, which look just fine alongside the 2016 models.

Hey, thanks!

I have a pic of another Willy Troll on there too. I don't know if I have 2 or 3 now, but they are pretty good. I'm in the middle of priming that first one, and hopefully someday will start painting him up. Anyways, here's Troll #2, it was really difficult getting him held together with blue tac long enough to take a picture, as he's a heavy metal boy.

I really like the conversion of your GW Troll.
The original stance is ridiculous!

But still, it looks like he's going to spike the little guy into the turf right in front of his feet, as if to tenderize the meat for easier consumption!

I used the Impact "Super Punch Troll" with the BB2016 Orcs, because I seriously don't like the new GW troll:

I also got one of those, rolo, and love it, but I think he will consider this one as "to small" too!

The model's bigger than it looks (and he'd be way bigger if he stood up straight, but y'know, Trolls) ...
