I'm going to use magnets for my bases, nothing new.

But one question came to my head. Which side of the magnet should do I use? I don't want put my magnet, play against other player using the same idea but using the opposite side. Would be tricky use a magnet ball with the wrong side of the magnet.


Is it any side that is the most common?

Mine are stuck on in a completely random way. Never thought about it.

I have one team already with magnets, in a random way.

But the other day playing against Jbone, who has his team with magnets too, I was thinking about it. If my magnets are in the opposite way, that means our magnets ball will be rejected.

You can use metal in the base and magnet in the ball. If its a strong magnet then it will attract though the plastic base.

Get some one pence pieces, most are magnetic (check first which ones) they will fit inside 25mm base. Or if you are using slotta bases you can use some garden wire, take magnet to store and check which its attracted to.

There's no magnets in the balls I use. I just drilled pins into the underside of the plastic ones and the others are ferrous metal and has no magnetic poles to repel.

Yeah, I put magnets in the bases and a piece of mild steel rod into the ball. That way there's no issues with polarity.
That said, it's easy enough to swap ball when possession changes during a match.

That make sense

My simple solution, was to make one ball with one polarity and another ball the opposite way. That way I've got a ball for all occasions!

magnets in the base, metal on the balls. that way will stick no matter what

My final solution has been put a magnet in middle of the ball, facing both ends of the ball.

As a result the ball hook with any polarised side. So I can use this ball with any miniature with magnets, without worry with polarised side the opponent use.

I've sort of been having this debate too. My first thought was that I would just add some metal into the ball, by using a pin vice to add a piece of paperclip in there or something. But now I've been looking at ways to weigh down the base, mainly by adding metal. From what I've found, that doesn't leave a lot of room for magnets. So I might have to add a magnet to the ball instead.

OR....and I just thought of this, add a small magnet to the top of the base and cover it with some static grass, etc.

If I do go the route of adding the magnet to the ball, I'll maybe use the 'standing' balls and add the magnet below the bit of earth.

Non-magnetized balls hasn't ever really been a big issue for us, so worst case I will skip it, but I always thought it would be a nice idea.

I have drilled a hole in the base to put the magnet. Basically because with the paint and the decoration the magnet will lost lot of power if it is under the base.

Ah, I didn't realize that Impact also sells the magnets to go with that. Makes perfect sense. I'm still leaning towards the solution I've been working on. However, I definitely want to try Impact's solution for comparison. They also sell felt circles for the bottom of the base, which is another nice touch. Looks like I have another order for next paycheck.
