Paravon Pegasi (Blood Bowl Bretonnians)

Post by Kotobuki »

Hey all, I'm new, and I'm sure I'll catch some flak for this, but for others that may be interested, I'm in the midsts of working on a Bretonnian team for Blood Bowl.

There's been a big push for Blood Bowl at my local GW store, and I'd expressed some interest in playing, but had considered Bretonnians. The League Commissioner found the proposed Bretonnian rules in use with the MBBL, and approved them for league use. So, I'll be using those rules.

Paravon Pegasi Starting Roster:

Code: Select all

QTY TYPE COST MA ST AG AV SKILLS Norm Dubl TOTAL
 2 Blitzer 120,000 6 3 3 9 Block, Dauntless GS AP 240,000
                                             Juggernaut
 2 Blitzer Squire 70,000 6 3 3 8 Wrestle GS AP 140,000
 2 Runner 100,000 7 3 3 8 Block, Catch GS AP 200,000
 1 Runner Squire 60,000 6 3 3 7 Sure Hands GP AS 60,000
 5 Linemen 40,000 6 3 3 7 Loner GA SP 200,000

 3 ReRoll 50,000 - - - - -- -- 150,000
 1 Fan Factor 10,000 - - - - -- -- 10,000

GRAND TOTAL 1,000,000
I played a practice game against one of the employees Norse team, and lost. I put alot of that down to abysmal armor rolls. Put 8 of his guys to the turf, and could only bust armor 7 once. Still, I'm thinking I may end up ditching a couple lineman, picking up a second Runner's Squire, and either a load of Fan Factor, or a 4th re-roll. That leaves me with only a starting roster of 11. And I'm not sure I want to do That, either.

I'll be using the Plastic Humans as the basis for my team, with a good bit of conversion. I'm by no means a master with GS, but hopefully I'll be able to get by. These are my 5 (current) starting linemen, and one Runner's Squire. In the pic there is still some Chainmail to be added to him, and everyone needs belt buckles. These are currently on the minis.

The team is obviously from Paravon, whose Duke has the Pegasus Rampant as his heraldry. This will be carried over to the team, as their logo. It will go on the Shield worn on the Right shoulder. The Left shoulder will bear the model's number.

Other than the Decal for the pegasus (the design I'll be having made is shown) and the number on the shoulderpad, this gent is finished. I realize the paint isn't the highest quality but it's pretty passable on the table. I guess I do need to clean up his shoe-laces though. The entire team will be based at the same time, sometime down the road.

I'd like to hear what you think about the starting roster, conversions, or anything really. I guess so long as it's not "Just play humans".

I'm not sure abou the roster, I think (at least it looks) very competitive ..

I really like the way you are going with the conversions! Maybe the shield shoulderpads could be a bit smaller to get them in sinc with the rest of the figs but you've been working an some very good ideas here

I'll pass on saying my opinion of Bretonian team rosters but I do like how your teams miniatures are turning out!

I'm not saying you should but you might want to do a search for Brettonian. People here are very passionate about them.

Great looking conversions, simple and effective! Not too sure about the rules but if they have been the muse that instigated this team they can't be all bad I suppose. :)

I've actually done a search, and had a quick look around. I didn't see a whole lot (in the short time I spent) in the way of modeling them. I'm sure this comes down (a lot, anyway) to the fact that as a Team, they seem to be pretty well frowned upon, roundabout these parts.

But, given that I will be playing them, and these WILL be the rules that are used for them, I figured we could put aside our differences of what we think should or shouldn't be in the game, and discuss the viability of the starting lineup, given the team's roster, and the modeling.

Those are some great-looking conversions! I especially like the mediaeval helmets and the doublets they're wearing. Can't help you with the starting roster, I'm afraid—I don't play in a league, only tournaments!

I'm currently putting together a Bretonnian team for a roster I made up. I've got as far as head-swapping some plastic blitzers with knights of the realm and snipping the weapons off an enchantress (there are enchantresses on my team :o ).

For the rest of the team (squires/peasants) I'm looking through a variety of historical manufacturers for suitably-posed types. I don't have a digital camera though, so I won't be inflicting my ham-fisted conversions on the TBB community!

I don't think it's the team itself that is frowned upon but the need for a new roster for them but that isn't important when talking about modeling a bretonian team cause they could be used for whichever roster! :P

I think the only other team converted to be brets that I've seen had huge big things on their helmets which I'm not a fan of i general so I'm really liking the base models your working with and the changes to them.

Hi Kotobuki,
great looking conversions! Excellent work. :D
I don't think you'll catch hell for discussing Bretonnian minis - but even thinking about including any Bretonnian line-up in the official rules will annoy a lot of people around here.
But at least you can rest assured that a lot of games have been played with the MBBL roster, and you won't encounter broken-ness issues.

For your inspiration, here is my own Bretonnian team.
No conversions - just a mix of old human minis and thrall minis.
Cheers
Martin

Okay, so I spent a good deal of time on these guys over the last day or so. These six models are ready to go. I'm not entirely pleased with the skintones, especially on the Runner's Squire... but that's something I may or may not bother fixing in the future. They still look good enough to me.

Also, as you can see, the ball is painted. Sometime in the (hopefully not too distant) future, I'll get the two other sprues of Humans, so I can get to converting them. I'll need to have the team ready by the end of this season, so I can join in next.

Bright yellow! :o

Altough, it's a strong team-colour, so it kinda works. Great contrast to the black (and a blast to paint, eh? ;).
Nice conversions aswell.
Great looking team.

...Gonna have to link this to a bud o' mine who wanted to make a Bretonnia team. Rub it his face what could have been, hadn't he started with a High Elf team (which I kinda suggested he'd do, but still  ).

It's hard to go wrong with bright yellow and black for armor ... and he didn't! :P
