In the entire “published” 2nd edition (except possibly WDs) is no mentioning of Sea Elves. Putting them back in, is no return to 2nd Edition (1988), it's just an arbitrary addition to the background, that adds nothing to the game or character of Sidewinder.
In fact the CRP box above, called poorly written by GW, is much better than saying he has Hypnotic Gaze because he's a Sea Elf.
Perhaps that whole Sea Elf thing got dropped because it's dumb.

“Power, not truth.”

And, to be honest, the CRP box explanation was a lot better. Sea Elves with Hypnotic Gaze sounds really dumb in comparison.

If that is true, it may be funny to note that JJ is on record saying that Cold Ones had been in a planning stage once (3rd Edition 1994), but got dropped because it's “a silly idea really”. Fanatic 3 p.42. The ball they should be using is a Troglodyte (2nd HB p.24). That “could” be a BB reference. Although, perhaps a bit fan-servicing, which is always a bit patronizing.

From what I saw, not only the runner has this scaly piece of leather on him but several other models too.
Maybe a nod to WHFB where they had lizards for mounts? Could explain the eggball too!

Looks like they drew inspiration from the dark elf corsairs who wear sea dragon cloaks. The old metal range had a musician with the cloak wrapped round his face like that.

Yep there was no mention of Sea Elves in 2nd Edition

I always thought he was a Wood Elf as the first Wardancer incarnations that GW produced were Wood Elves

They weren't mentioned in any BB publications but they certainly existed.
The original Eldril was merely a conversion of a WFB wardancer. Back in those days every miniature had to have a name as Brian Ansell liked it that way. From that, some got picked out to be stars or characters and bits of brief colour text got added. No one expected these things to be causing debate 30 years later. But here we are and so part of my job as a writer involves going back to the beginning with stuff like this and unravelling it.
In the particular case of Eldril it was my boss who did that. He loves a bit of digging around in the archives.

Well, so far I guessed 1 out of 2 released teams correctly for 2018. I have a feeling my other guesses will be off the mark as well.

With the idea of use models that have been released already. I will vote for Chaos Dwarfs as they can use the mino of Forge World... and because I want a CD team so hard

I guessed we would get 4 teams this year: Chaos Chosen, Halflings, Nurgle, and Wood Elves. Given that we've had two Elf teams now...I'm doubting my Wood Elf guess. Given that Wood Elves and Halflings both need Trees, I'm doubting the Halfling guess too. Nurgle, I could still see coming out this year.

My guess would be Undead and then Nurgle.

Nurgle (to me) feels a little too soon in the wake of Chaos Chosen. Undead allows dipping toes into the necromancy aspect of BB for the first time in this edition. Will also presumably be a lot of ideas and design concepts for the AOS 2 release that the specialist team may be able to piggy back off.

After that I reckon Amazon, then perhaps Khemri/Necromantic (Amazon for a non-Elfy goodish team, and then another Undead team)

You don't want to go dipping your toes in necromancy. There's no telling what will take a bite.

:D

Going back to the Dark Elves, someone on the Facebook BB community raised the question of speculating on the Dark Elf star players - assuming they will go up to 10 entries.

Roxanna, Harkon, Eldril and Morg are already official

Hubris seems a given and presumably Ithaca, which would leave 4 new slots

Someone mentioned Tuern Redvenom as one option....but looking at the stats he seems a little too similar (...and arguably better) than Hubris to me

https://fumbbl.com/help:ForgottenStarPlayers

Jeremiah Kool - or perhaps son of? For the Dark Elf player that wants to throw the ball around a bit more?

Other thoughts that occur to me for star player ideas
Dark Elves - thematically - seem like they should have at least one secret weapon option....it strikes me that there could be an assassin that takes things a little too far by having a thrown

For the Dark Elf player who want a sort of Big Guy option - a bloodwrack medusa star player

For the Dark Elf player who wants a one turn touchdown option: a Harpy that could perhaps double its movement....but at the risk of forgetting itself and flying off (counts a knock out)

Tuern wouldn't have to adhere to the old 3rd ed stats. Look at Withergrasp for proof. I'd be somewhat shocked if he weren't included.
