After a few demos, I found the assist rule to be the most difficult (and impossible in some cases) to explain.

Ive seen players with many games under their belt still unable to work it out

I think it took me 3 games until I finally figured out blocking. Before that, I just kept moving players and asking "How many dice? Oh. Okay, so he doesn't block". Though I imagine I probably blocked with 2d a lot back then too.

Even after 3 games, I think I still ran into confusion a few times. Once I figured out 'ok, so this guy negates that guy, negates that guy...which leaves these ones...', then it's pretty easy. Well, until you have to get that one guy across field to assist with a block that is going to bust that cage open...
