Our long running league, The Thursday Night Hero's, are seriously thinking of going to 40mm pitch's. Just have to find a vendor who can give a good price on the amount of boards we will need(10-12 pitch's).

As for granny sticking her thumb in and making a "official" 4th ed...Can't see it as a problem for our league, as we play a modified 3rd ed. and we like what we do.

Really depends on what you are hoping to pay per a board. I have them but they are not inexpensive to make.

While Im hopefull that the rules don't change, I can totally see GW changing to teams of named players with fixed stats.

EG:
Orcland Raiders Team would no longer be 0-4 BO, 0-4 Blitzers etc etc but:
Ghoulchewer - Block, MB
Bob the ORC - Block
Steve the ORC - Pass, Sure Hands
Colin the ORC - Tackle
Tracey the ORC - Dirty player
etc
etc

Lose all the customization for leagues and swap it with fleshed out characters.
Would cut down on a lot of the rules too.

I dont think Id like to see that happen, but would give it a go.

Isn't the development of players one of the fun parts in Blood Bowl?

One of the best ones, in my opinion.
You can customize your players, although there is not much room for creative builds in an efficient roster.

That would be a terrible decision. I think most people enjoy seeing their team grow and evolve over time. Static rosters would get rid of all that for no real gain (you might get rid of a few skills, but a lot of skills would still be around unless you wanted all the static players to have similar skills).

We are seriously looking to get club pitch's with our league name and our "wild things" mascot CAROL. Someone was making "mouse pad" pitch's and he did a mock-up with carol and Thursday Night Hero's in the end zone, but i hav'nt heard back, and if he can do 40mm squares.
If that fails, we would just get "plain jane" pitch's. We will need 12.

I think that isn't going on anymore because the company deleted a bunch of the designs.

Tom sells 40mm felt pitches. They're my favorite, but obviously pretty basic in terms of design.

I think if they did go that route (not impossible, 2nd edition was very similar to this with their star player teams), then campaign rules like we know them today would not be far behind as optional rules.

Blood Bowl, Necromunda or Mordheim without the campaign rules would be unthinkable in the long term, so even if the core box presents BB as a one-off boardgame without the campaign aspect, I feel sure that generic teams and campaign rules will be an obligatory addition in one way or another.

Have you tried playing with just the basic rules? When I bought the box years ago, the first few pages of the rulebook covered basic mechanics and the box included a 1M orc roster and 1M human roster. Only 4 Actions (Move, Pass, Block and Blitz) and about 6 skills (Block, Dodge, Catch, Pass, not sure of others) were covered. No assists, no kickoff table. Most of the rules we are used to are actually "Advanced" or "Optional" according to the rulebook. Using just the basic rules might be what you are looking for.

No assists takes a lot of skill out of it as positioning to get 2d Blocks is a big part of the game.

The Star Player teams were there for fluff reasons really. There were no stat or prices for them. They were more a this is what the best look like/something you can try to create. Ahhhhhhhhhh I get you now, you mean make say an Elf team, add the Eagles star players and play them against an Orc team with Gauged Eye players? Yeah we used to do that too.

I think the idea of having a list of players is a fun one. It would work well for resurrection. Instead of adding skills you look down a list of players and pick the ones you want to play for you until you have used up your money allowance.
