Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum but many years ago I used to play BB and lately i'm thinking about start playing again I own 4 teams (humans, orcs, skaven, undead) and a few star players (Griff, Count Luthor, Ripper, Headsplitter, Varag). None of my friends own the game or any other team and i'd like to buy a new team and probably a few star players. So the simple question is: what team should i buy? The idea is to add variety but at the same time i'd like a fairly balanced team from the start (no long time planning as we will play short leagues at max, if ever ). For exemple, i was thinking about Chaos team but i keep reading they are very hard to play at the beginning, they start to shine after a few (many?) matches. What about star players? Are there any must-have SP for the teams i own and for the one i will buy? I know i should just probably buy what inspire me most, but i'd like to hear your opinion first, so thank you in advance for your answers! P.S. Keep in mind i will probably paint the new team (sooner or later) and i prefer GW minis (even if they are quite expensive).

Dwarfs or Chaos dwarfs would be bashy like chaos but quite different playstyles to the above?

Those 4 teams you already have are probably the most balanced since they all can both pass the ball and bash to some extent. They are all core teams as well so some of the most popular.
I’d suggest getting an AV8 elf team either the High or Dark elves as they are reasonably durable but still have ag4 and easy access to dodge so are very mobile. After that a more dedicated bash team like Dwarfs or Chaos would be good.

Definitely get a dwarf team. Then post up a painting blog and a team blog so that we can all be entertained by watching Heff continue to grumble and scream about cheesey bearded midgets.

I'd get an elf team of some description. Its pretty easy to get one of the non-GW elf teams and paint them in such a way as to give you minis to cover all 4 elven teams. You could also get a couple of werewolves and golems and then you've got a Necro team too.

Very good point, with 25 models you can have all 4 elven teams (assuming 8 linemen), or 21 if you use throwers as Dark Elf runners and catchers as witch elves. With 32 models you could get a full team of Khemri, Undead and Necromantics, assuming 8 zombies and 8 skeletons and using wights as blitz-ras. With a little imagination you could use the same models for Golems and 2 of the Tomb Guardians and Thro-ras as the 2 extra ghouls for undead, if you cut back to 6 skellies and 6 zombies that would need only 24 models.

I'd echo the vote for AV8 elves above. Either Dark Elf (running game) or High Elf (passing game) would do well and should be fairly well-balanced with the four teams above in case you ever get some friends to try out a league-setting using your teams. I think High Elves are amazing fun to play, and Dark Elves may end up playing a lot like the Skaven and Human teams. Also, High Elves (without the two extra blitzers and the two witches of dark elves) are probably going to be closer in initial and late-league balance to the other four teams.
Alternatively, you might think about one of the more reasonable challenge teams, like Vampire, to add in a lot of variety to your collection. This way, if you do manage to start up a short trial league with some friends, assuming you are the most experienced coach and they are relatively new, the vamps will give you a natural handicap wherein you can still play your hardest but will be less likely to dominate the games and dishearten the rookie coaches.

You should PM Heff about his favourite Dwarf player. BTW I think he preferred them when their rerolls were only 40k.
Wood Elves are nice too, Heff likes those as well.

Thanks you all for the excellent suggestions, keep 'em coming! Getting 2 more teams down the road seems like a good idea, so i will eventually have 6 teams total. I was considering getting an Elf Team and the only one i actually like (visually) is the DE Team, but i'm a bit scared about the designer's notes in the rules: Some of the above 21 teams are more challenging than the others to play etc. These more challenging teams are: Chaos, Dark Elf, Goblin, Halfling, Nurgle, Ogre and Vampire. Coaches should be aware that these are considered teams for more advanced players and can be confusing or difficult to use if you are new to the game. Is that true or should i just ignore it? I like the idea of adding some minis to the Undead team to have a Necro team. What do i exactly need? 2 Werewolves and 2 Flesh Golems? About the Dwarves, i guess this Heff must be an expert, i cant wait to hear his opinion But seriously, i was actually thinking about getting a Dwarf team Why the hate/love?

They tower over Heff and have better beards than him.
Some call it beard envy... we just call it getting in a Heff.

It is somewhat true, but since you can use the dark elves to play the other elves as well that shouldn't stop you from buying the team. Personally I'd place Pro Elves there too, if Dark Elves are there. The only reason why Dark is there and Pro is not is probably because it is so durn easy to over-purchase positionals on a Dark Elf team, and trying to start Darkies with zero rerolls will cause problems for you. Goblin, Halfling and Ogre are for players that like loosing. Vampires are tricky but can win (and Khemri is there too, in my opinion.) Chaos, Dark Elf and Nurgle are not really tricky. Chaos and Nurgle are very slow starters, though - it is hard to start winning right away with them. Dark Elves also start low on skills (except block) and are somewhat tricky starters, but with a good team build they are easier than Chaos and Nurgle. Dwarves - they are hated because they are so easy and so difficult at the same time. Dwarves can block things, and that they do well. They have to position really well, or any opponent will either steal the ball, or run away with the ball. Possibly both in the same turn. The most important reason for the hate is probably because they are very dangerous opponents for beginner teams (almost everyone starts with block, and they have more armor than the norse who also look like that) and they are also mean against halflings, goblins and amazons.) People remember being swatted when they and their teams were new, and cheer when the bullies get taken down a notch. (Which happens fairly soon, as other teams get the skills needed to play around or mow down the dwarves.)

Chaos Dwarfs. Because they Rock! Also, Dark Elves. because some Elf team is a natural fit to what you have, and the other Elves are pussies. Finally, Goblins. Because there is no team that is more mayhem and fun, and captures the essence of Blood Bowl better, than Goblins.
