Make foul great again

Post by Baxx »

Need help balancing fouling after all the new referee rules. Most of them give heavy nerf to fouling, which has not yet been balanced. I'm about to start a goblin team and need all the dirty play I can get.

Any suggestion of balanced and fun rules to give foul a push? Preferably in line with all the new rules (DZ1, DZ2, WD, App). Also not something that will cause additional death and injury.

How has fouling been nerfed?

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.

Our league gives an additional +1 to the Armour roll, effectively the fouling player is counted too when calculating assists.
We took that from Plasmoid's CRP+ and have been using it since before BB2016 was released. Tbh, we still don't see a lot of fouling in the league.

If you kill people on a foul - you get 2spp

There's currently 6 different referees. Most of them will make some punishment in case of a foul where the fouling player is not sent off (or did not roll a double).

Examples:

-fouling player's team loses a re-roll
-fouling player is knocked down with armour roll
-a player on fouling player's team is knocked down with armour roll
-arguing the call when a fouling player is sent off may result in the coach also being sent off

Only one effect is truly benecifial for the fouling player's team, and that is the halfling triplet referees may actually send of the fouled player instead!

Are they optional rules?

DZ2: "Famous Referees" are under "New Optional Rules" (Pg38); for reference "(In)Famous Coaching Staff" are under "New Rules" (Pg40) - they are the only things under "New Rules".

Yes both in DZ2 and WD they're optional.

Well why bother with BB2016 at all then? Just go back to blood bowl edition 1986 if you're not interested in new stuff.

Of course I'm gonna use the new referee rules, they're super fun! I don't understand your mind step at all...

That sounds really good. I might add some other benefit like a modifier on the casualty table to make up for it for some of the softer teams in the league.

I like the idea of making fouling more powerful while I don't want soft teams to restart more often because of it.

+1.

Now foul is great again.

Or still great.

Depends on how you look at it.

SPP for a foul. Seems potentially OP, but also punishes the dirty player with added bloat if he is effective!

I dont.

However my comments were not aimed at me and my league. You asked for a way to "balance the new referee rules". The ultimate way to "balance" them is to not use them. And as they are optional then not using them has no effect on the rest of the game.

You seem to want your cake and to eat it; using the new rules whilst at the same time not using the new rules.

The +1 thing for the fouler is quite a common thing, as it was the old rules - if I hadn't had a few newbies/returnees to the game last time I updated our houserules I'd have added it.
