Throw Team Mate At Opposition?

Post by J_Bone »

Just a quick query on one that has cropped up in a recent local discussion... If I want to throw a goblin with a troll, do I have to target an empty square or could I target the opposition (as the thrown player getting knocked down isn't a turnover unless he holds the ball)?

I just wondered as it doesn't say that the goblin has to be thrown to an empty square in the Throw Team Mate skill? Obviously, he will scatter 3 times so he very well may not land where thrown anyway but I wondered if this might open up some wacky and funny options for goblin and orc teams? Imagine caging up with humans and then your cage corner gets busted open by a goblin thrown from behind the enemy line!

You used to have to aim for an empty square, but they've removed that from the rules, so yes, you can target a player.

Ok, cool... I didn't want to be one of those "Well, they don't say you CAN'T do it!" guys but I was honestly curious as to whether it was an option or not.

A similar question occurred the other day as to whether a goblin bombardier can target a prone player. We ruled that it could but nobody was 100% on it.

I see no reason why the Bombardier shouldn't be able to target a prone player. If precise, the player will be unable to catch the bomb and it will, thus, explode.

That was the guy's logic... I didn't see any reason why not but I could see some people having a problem with it

Hi J_Bone ... when I changed that rule in the rulebook it was very deliberate to allow you to throw bombs at Prone players to try and take them out.

Had a Ogre team use Bomber Dribblesnot effectively that way in my league. Ogre knock down player ... throw Bomb to remove from field anyone just Prone ... rinse ... repeat.

He he. Would be interesting to see some probability analysis on where the best square to target in order to hit a player is.

I've a hunch it wouldn't be the actual square occupied by the player as that only gives you a limited number of paths to land back on the player.

While the first scatter can go anywhere (100%) the second scatter would have to be a square adjacent to the player (there would be 2 such squares - each being 12.5%) and the third scatter then back to the targeted player (there would only be 1 result that would work for each of the 2 squares scattered to in the previous scatter - 12.5%).

So the probability would be (12.5% * 12.5%) + (12.5% * 12.5%) = 3.125%

On the move on mobile so doing the much more complex analysis for other scatter paths is beyond me right now!

So the total percentage changes of where the ball will land in relation to your target square are as follows: on target: 4.69% one: 42.16% two: 32.81% three: 20.31%

lol, got home and made a version (including fixing the error in my initial workings) - then checked back here. Should have realised this would already exist! Oh well!

Hmmm... That diagram makes me REALLY want to give a gobo Guard and start throwing him at cages!

He would have to land in tackle zones first, though. ;)

If he hasn't moved, he only needs to not fail his armour roll and he can get back up again :-) Even funnier if he takes down a corner while he's at it
