Pass Block on Hail Mary Pass ?

Post by Gus »

i've tried a search yet found nothing, so here it is: is it possible to use Pass Block against a HMP ? since there is no "ruler" to move below, can you still move in the TZs of the thrower/receiver ?

I'd say yes.

It is a pass after all, and you can put TZ's on the thrower or the receiver. And in the HMP rules all it says is that this pass may not be intercepted, PB states that you may make that move if you can either attempt an interception (No, as stated by HMP), or put TZ's on the thrower (Yes) or put TZ's on receiver (Yes).

And to make it even more likely, HMP speficially cites how useful it is in combination with Diving Catch, not expressly allowing it, just mentioning it. Diving Catch also has no reference to HMP, so in that case, PB and DC are in the same situation, and may be used.

Agreed with Gorbad's analysis.

ah I thought you meant move into the TZ's to make an interception (since you mentioned moving below the ruler)... if you just want to put a TZ on the catcher then I'd agree with the fellas above as well. misunderstood

To put a TZ on the thrower would make no sense.
But to throw a TZ on the Catcher it could be useful (never thought about that option)

Unless of course your passblocker also has skills like block, tackle, mighty blow, piling on, of course

putting a tz on the thrower always makes sense as long as he doesn't have nerves of steel.

Edit: but not when using hmp.

well, it makes sense in cas of fumbling for example, or to allow a free hit next turn, after HMP scatters and provokes a TO.

Could someone please enlighten me and point out how I identify the catcher?

Throwing a hmp right between two possible catchers was always my choice due to the scatter. So there is no catcher "marked".

And just some more confusion  . A player declares a regular pass but you cannot reach the named catcher with pb, only another player is reachable who is standing two squares closer, with an inaccurate pass he could be the catcher. Just keep this in mind :o , and yes I do know that are not allowed to move your pb under these circumstances  .

cheers
Tobias

well, it's simple to identify the receiver: it is the player that has been declared as receiver by the coach. if you throw it to an empty square, then there is NO receiver (as is possible to do with a regular pass, btw).

if there is no receiver, you obviously cannot use pass block to go to the receiver's TZ. as a consequence, though, none of the players in range of the scatter can use their diving catch skill (if they have it) as diving catch expressely refers to the INTENDED receiver.
